video: nagin warns on fed 'strangle' of new orleans

we just stumbled across this recent vid of mayor ray nagin addressing the national association of black journalists and the first thing that comes to mind is how it ties in to what judicial inc has been reporting all along such as: las vegas entrepreneurs lick their chops

total information analysis snip:
In this important speech to the National Association of Black Journalists, the Hon. Ray Nagin warns the federal government is angling to strangle New Orleanians and take over the city -- and "shrink the footprint" of NOLA (in line with the United Nations' Malthusian Agenda 21). town talk joins the blogosphere...sorta

you can always tell when you go on a corporate owned media site because they use the same template. we have noticed via links from mainly the dead pelican, story chat on other gannett owned newspapers websites throughout the state for instance the lafayette paper has story chat...but the opelousas paper doesnt appear to have it yet...this is interesting besides story chat the monroe papers reporters and editors have their own blogs...monroe has public forums too...curiously the shreveport paper has their own template and commenting system check it out here.

we disagree with having to register we think that story readers should be able to post at will and without going through some signing in process. its annoying.

cenlamar does a much better job of explaining all this including privacy issues so be sure and read their posts called note to the town talk... & what are you trying to say?
central la politics blog also takes the town talk, kalb and the northside journal to task see town talk's joke of the day

    video: hotel bentley press conference

if you follow these blogs then you already knew back at the 16 august 2006 that bob dean was finally turning loose of the hotel bentley. downtowns long nightmare was over. in all fairness to mr. dean it probably was impossible to do business in alexandria, city government being what it is. applying for a permit to demolish the bentley was a bit much though. perhaps in mr. dean's mind that was merely his way of giving the city the finger. the bentley is historic. general eisenhower as well as general patton stayed there. many celebrities especially during world war 2 (entertaining troops at fort [camp] polk) have enjoyed the hotel bentley and its amenities, so you can see how this demolition talk didnt sit well at all with the purists and the romantics among us.

already, there is talk on cenla blogs about this "sale" being a political ploy, but we're not going to choose to see it that way. for now. lol. although we still think that the bentley should convert to apartments and condos ~ because we think that this is the only true way to make sure that the bentley stays open and maintained ~ but for the sake of the bentley we hope that we are wrong and the new owners make a killing renting hotel rooms.

before we read the press release we pondered on what, if anything, could this possibly mean being announced from the anniversary of the day of katrina. and when we read it we were glad to see that it wasnt just a coincidence as the significance of the date is mentioned. as you probably know "katrina" means cleansing or purifying therefore, let the cleansing and purifying begin with the bentley and radiate outward to downtown and beyond.

    allen parish reservoir hi-jinx

    **updated**
we received this via email a few days ago...

Thompson, almost ready for Reservoir Permit

In Allen Parish, a rare occurrence of a public notice in a Newspaper states there will be a meeting of the Reservoir Commission in Oberlin, La. on Wed August 23 at 5:30pm.

Michael Thompson, the $100,000 a year Consultant, and his buddy Randy Denmon the $800,000 a year engineer are present. Thompson said, "we are almost ready to start talking with the Corp of Engineers about applying for a permit."

In the last 14 months while still getting paid, not much has been done, but Thompson says, there were Hurricanes and the Corp seemed to be very busy.

Thompson starts to spin, when asked by Commission Chairman Phil Beard how long will it take, and when will you apply for the permit? Thompson says, need to locate property owners, do a 1000-acre mitigation on wetlands, everything is a lengthy process, and therefore never gives an answer.

Randy Denmon says, we have done more tests, and Mill Creek is a perfect site for the Reservoir. The water quality is great, and will produce 30 million gallons a day.

Sept 23, 2004 at Commission site selection, Randy Denmon's father Terry Denmon said, his "reputation was on the line" and this was not his first lake study, and the 3,700-acre Mill Creek site is the perfect site. The commissioners also approved to start the application process with the Army Corps of Engineers.

On Sept 9, 2004 the Community Preservation Alliance Alledged Wrong-doing of Rep. Francis C. Thompson, Mike Thompson, and Terry Denmon creating 14 Reservoirs statewide. The Alliance, consisting of residents of 3 of the 4 sites have said they were concerned that Mill Creek was contaminated years ago by a paper mill and unfit to serve as a feeder for a Reservoir.

On July 1, 2004, at a Emotionally charged Reservoir meeting, Roland Hollins also Police Jury Vice President said, it is in my heart, these are my people, and it's not right to take the homes of the residents of my district for a pleasure lake or fishing hole.

Hollins attempt to eliminate all other sites except Mill Creek failed, but a motion was passed to see if Denmon could raise the height of the Dam to achieve an average water depth of 8 feet and make Mill Creek a feasible site.

    American Press; Sep 8, 2004
Rep. Herman Ray Hill and Sen. Don Hines urged Reservoir Commission not to approve a site that would claim scenic rivers or homes, and said, "We should abandon the project if anything other than Mill Creek was selected." Mill Creek, located in the center of the West Bay Game Preserve, is the only site where homes would not be compromised.

Commission member Gary Pelican said, I am concerned that we are still on the same page, and the site will not take any homes or Cemeteries, and is there a detailed map of Dam location and property owners available? Thompson says no, but Randy should be able to draw one up. Secretary Adagria Haddock, paid $9,000.00 a year to keep the minutes was not present.

What a Waste, Money continues to flow like water year after year for unwanted and unneeded foolish pork barrel reservoirs to make Politicians, their brothers, family, and friends wealthy?
    ====
Unchristian desecration of Cemeteries and taking of homes
Wake up, Eminent Domain Abuse concerns us all!

While Allen Parish Legislators and Reservoir Commission members have shown Christianity and Concern for desecration of Cemeteries and taking of homes, Sen. Nevers and his appointed Reservoir Commission has shown none. There has been no attempt to locate an alternate site for their pleasure lake.
    La. State Senator Ben Nevers

Sen. Ben Nevers and his Reservoir Commission remain steadfast in their unchristian effort to desecrate Cemeteries and take homes to build a Reservoir in Washington Parish.

Senate Bill 639, Nevers attempt to expand Eminent Domain abuse to take Homes and Property of Residents Parish-wide was opposed by members of the Parish Council.

The use of Eminent Domain, desecration of Cemeteries, and taking of family homes and family land in America for recreation, Reservoirs, and Golf courses is placing an undue hardship on some for the pleasure and gain of others. This is America, not a Communist country where the state owns everything.

Oak Grove Community residents intend to fight for their Cemeteries, homes, heritage, streams, wildlife, ecosystem and way of life. This is a violation of their civil rights, the right to happiness and their right to continue voting in the same area.

The residents don't want to sell their land at any price. This is their home, their heritage, where they have lived all their life. There is no just compensation, and money is not the answer. In reality, it's the problem.

Without our heritage, our family land, our homes, our way of life, we can never be happy again. The state doesn't have enough money to compensate us in this matter. Again, money is not the answer.

To those who say, ''This matter does not concern us,'' I say, ''Wake up, this concerns us all, and will affect us all.''

I pray for help in this matter, and for the ones who want to do this.

Please have a conscience as many people can justify the wrong that they do to others, and many can convince themselves that what they are doing is right.

Please choose another site. Look inside your heart, and stop coveting thy neighbor's house.

northside journal on saturdays alexandria mayoral debate

the northside journal has written another editorial focusing on the alexandria, louisiana mayoral election and has kindly made it available to us for your consumption. we must say that as observers of this election campaign we have to agree with what is written here. we werent impressed at all by those who chose not to attend this past saturdays crime stoppers mayoral debate. looking back we can see that it was candidate delores brewer that set the stage for the others to have an excuse not to attend when she crowed at the central louisiana business league debate that that weekend was her 29th wedding anniversary. well pardon us but what better way to spend your anniversary than with your life's partner partaking in a debate for the job of mayor of the city that you supposedly love? there are those that say that saturdays crimestopper debate was all just a put up deal by dr. sams and that the alexandria chapter head of crimestoppers is stacy auzenne a local attorney and reportedly a strong sams supporter. once again pardon us but arent you all smart enough to outfox dr. sams at his own game? must not be seeing as how you didnt bother to show up.

anyhoo here is the northside journal's editorial and we have permission from them to upload this file to a server account controlled by us, so, feel free to download a copy.

When it comes to political debates I guess the old saying holds true. A weak candidate has nothing to gain by attending, and everything to lose. You cannot be held accountable for something you didn’t say.
    [...]
Alexandria is like a ship who’s captain can no longer steer a steady course. He has left the navigation to a crew of misfits, unqualified to read a compass.
    [...]
Saturday’s debate was the perfect opportunity for a single strong captain to emerge and take command. Had all the candidates kept their word and attended...

added 7:51 pm cdt wednesday 23 august 2006 another good video blog. mr. lampert tells us that district 4, includes downtown, the garden district and dist 4 mr. lampert says includes and we didnt realize this cabrini hospital and the mall. he says that he lives in the garden district and that he feels that its an "uneven race" because he says that its a race about who the city council wants ~ councilman silver ~ versus who the people of district 4 want ~ himself. he says though that whatever the people of district 4 decision is he will be happy for and support it. he says that he is "neighorhoodcentric" and that he is meeting a lot of people in the neighborhoods and "that happiness and power and security flows from the neighborhoods outward." well we certainly agree with that. hes an attorney by trade and says that "sometimes we (attorneys) get a bum rap probably most of the time people are right on." we agree there too. one thing that we disagree with mr. lampert with is the brick streets in downtown alexandria. lampert says that he is "one million percent" against paving them over. huh??? then he says that the garden district is about quality of life. aww c'mon give us a break. when those bricks were put down what 100 years ago it wasnt but prolly 3,000 people in all of alexandria. riding buggys, wagons and horses. do you really think that if you could bring all those alexandrian's back today and showed them a paved road like jackson street extension or even the paved roads that we have now what would they choose? common sense would tell you they would choose the paved roads. so, sorry historical society ladies, but anyone who is for brick streets in this day and age has got a screw loose. yeah its too bad that hauk's alignment doesnt take sentimentality as payment.

paramount pictures terminates tom cruise for this garbage:

we're not tom cruise aficionados by any means but the guy is a great actor. we've seen a handful of his films namely: taps, risky business, top gun, cocktail, rain man, a few good men, the firm, interview with the vampire, jerry maguire and collateral.

so, we have to say so what? that cruise a forty-something hooked up with a twenty-something katie holmes. no one said anything back when a 45 year old humphrey bogart wed a 20 year old lauren bacall. in fact they stayed together until bogies death 12 years later. a veritable eternity by hollywood standards. so what? that cruise jumped up and down on oprah's couch. so what? that cruise is adament about his religion or whatever it is, although we tend to believe that scientology is a kooky cult. the world would be a better place if more people took an interest in religion. when we go to see a movie we go for a good story and good acting both of which are sorely lacking in films lately; thats probably why we seldom go to the movies.

so anyway, last night drudge linked to this story from daily variety about how "South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have set two live-action films at Paramount." this makes us laugh because "south park" is about the most worthless piece of crap to ever come out of hollywood. south park is nothing more than propaganda aimed at young people to get their minds off of what is happening in the world and onto filth and debauchery instead.

if sumner redstone and viacom/paramount were truly interested in working to create a better world the last thing they would be promoting is something as vile and deceitful as south park but they are not interested in creating a better world they are only interested in keeping the minds of the young on their stomachs and genitals in order to easier manipulate and control them.

1998 saw 7,742 total ballots cast for mayor. ms. hammond and ned randolph were the only ones in the mayor race. ms. hammond received 1,258 or 16% of the vote. so, looks like ms hammond can be counted on to draw at least 1,000 votes.

    snip:
(incumbent councilman harry) Silver also referenced the "infamous deal" about a year ago when two other council members blocked a move in committee to buy some of Alexandria's winter natural gas at around $7 per million British thermal units. Two hurricanes later, gas soared to $16 and more.

District 2 Councilman Everett Hobbs was one of two councilmen who blocked the deal, and was on the defense after charges by challenger and lawyer Darrell Hickman.

On crime, Roy said there's plenty of money to return community police to neighborhoods if the council would curb its awarding of professional services contracts that don't benefit taxpayers. "Look at the lucrative consulting agreements" the council has awarded, Roy said. "There is w
here a whole bunch of money can be found."

    Reservoir Battle is Statewide...

Some have said, they didn’t know there were groups statewide fighting the Reservoirs.

We are members of a Statewide Alliance of Groups fighting the Reservoirs.

We are also allies with the Washington Parish Community Preservation Alliance.

The Oak Grove Community is not alone in their battle against the Reservoirs.

See the oakgrovecommunity.tripod.com Website, or contact Jalon Beech of the Oak Grove Community for more information.

The Reservoirs are proposed statewide by a group of Self-serving Corrupt Politicians for personal gain. The Reservoir Commission members are usually appointed cronies, buddies, and family members interested in personal gain, and some may even be in business with the Politicians creating the Reservoirs.

The gang leader of the Reservoir Dogs Gang is Rep. Francis C. Thompson of Delhi, La. Thompson’s brother, Mike Thompson is the Reservoir Consultant receiving $100,000 a year per lake for 8 lakes. He is also a consultant of the Washington Parish Reservoir.

The main purpose of the Thompson Reservoir Dogs Gang is personal gain, or Money.

Sen. Ben Nevers of Washington Parish is also a member of the Thompson Reservoir Dogs Gang, whose main interest is the unchristian taking of Cemeteries, homes and property by Eminent Domain to build Reservoirs for Personal Gain. Thompson’s Corporation is already selling his ill-gotten lakefront lots at Poverty Point.

The Politicians and Commission members usually provide a list of misinformation, propaganda, and lies saying they are creating jobs, economic development, or there is a water shortage as their reasons for creating the Reservoirs.

Thompson also said that his Poverty Point Lake was being built for these same reasons. Thompson’s lake at Delhi can’t even support a convenience store, or a bait stand, and it needs to pump water from ground wells to keep the lake full.

To learn more about this Reservoir Corruption, and how the Reservoirs got started, visit our Web Sites. There are also links to all the other Statewide Alliance Websites.

Unlike Politicians and Reservoir Commission’s Misinformation, Fabrication, Deceit, and Lies we provide facts, or links to statements and facts on our Web Sites. You will find an awesome and overwhelming amount of information.

myspace users hit by hacker virus

MySpace users hit by hacker virus
    12:29pm 18th August 2006

Users of the popular MySpace website have been warned by computer experts that viruses linked to the interactive site, which boasts more than one million regular users, are in circulation.

Experts believe that hackers have hit the hugely popular site and say the viruses in circulation can change settings, delete files, secretly track users' movements online and even damage computers.

They believe that the hackers have hidden dangerous software on the site which means that computers can be attacked unaware to users while they are just viewing pages.

"There is a very real threat to users of MySpace, and in fact we have already seen several MySpace specific viruses emerge," Graham Cluley of computer security company Sophos told the Standard Lite newspaper.

The site is hugely popular, especially with teenagers, and it has recorded growing numbers of users in recent months, now accounting for 4.5 per cent of all internet traffic.

However, its popularity has also led to it becoming a target for scams.

Mr Cluley believes the current virus can be blamed on the site's teenage appeal.

"The problem is that people tend to let their guard down because they think the site is safe. But even a picture of a fluffy bunny rabbit on the site can contain a hidden piece of software that could harm your machine," he said.

"We've also seen pages that contain code to automatically spread viruses through MySpace's buddy system, which lets you add friends to your profile."

added 9:52 pm cdt thursday 17 august 2006 the city council debate which was first started a few minutes past 6pm and ran until 7:17 pm then they took a 10 minute intermission and resumed with the mayors debate around 7:30.

the central louisiana business league did a very good job putting on the debate. the debaters all spoke well. councilman lawson seems like a nice guy and he gets emotional when he talks about alexandria and family and church and things like that and thats good. where we disagree with him, for example is in one part of one of his orations he summed up his involvement in sports and all the sports teams he has sponsored and started and the city and others are involved in. what he was doing by talking up sports was to subtly remind everyone of the proposed downtown sports arena; we still disagree with him and everyone else out there that is dangling this thinly disguised as a diamond, lump of taxpayer coal.

what possible economic advantage could a downtown sports arena have for alexandria and central louisiana? its probably something that will never ever be built anyway. what after the city gets through paying all the studies and architects, surveyors, engineers, consultants and so forth. the city moreso needs a pier downtown than a sports arena. do you know you can always get a job doing something around a pier? for instance you can work for tips tying and untying ships. then you can make money fetching the newspaper or a meal or supplies for the sailors. we have a burgeoning concierge industry right there. a pier would generate more money more steadily for alexandria's economy than a sports arena. people around here dont go to stuff like that anyway, and you can only have so many monster truck shows. so get real.

councilman silver seems reasonable and his live and let live attitude is certainly a good philosophy. marc lampert did well too. councilman hobbs spoke well and so did his opposition mr hickman.

bob dean unloads the hotel bentley for $6.5 million....

the hotel bentley via alexandria postcard collection a feature of alexandria-retrospective

potentially great news but we still think 'out of town invester' paid about 5.7 million [4.4eur] too much, its already been 614 days since 12 december 2004 when the bentley was abruptly closed.
anyhooo we are cautiously optomistic. it all depends on what the new owners want to do we think the lobby and facade should be left alone. guesstimates are that including the sale price they are spending around 16 million dollars before they rent the first room. maybe they plan to carve the upstairs up and sell apartments to quickly recoup some of their investment. could you build that many condo's within the space? when donald trump built the 68 story trump tower it cost $200 million. he wrote in his book the art of the deal that the trump organization was able to sell enough residential space and retail and commercial space to cover that and make an immense profit.
