Ball Police Officer Killed In Crash
Early this morning, a single vehicle crash killed a police officer. The police officer worked for Ball Police Department.
Troopers responded to the crash around 2:50 am, which occurred on US Hwy 165 in Ball, LA.
The crash involved a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria, driven by Russell A. George (W/M 47 yrs) of Boyce, LA.
The Ford was south bound on US Hwy 165 north of LA Hwy 623 with Officer George responding to assist another Ball police officer that needed assistance.
While traveling south on US Hwy 165 the Ford collided with an abandoned bicycle that was located in the roadway.
After colliding with the bicycle, Officer George lost control and exited the right side of the roadway before colliding with several trees. After colliding with the trees, the Ford became engulfed in flames.
Officer George was pronounced dead at the scene.
Routine toxicology tests are pending. The crash remains under investigation.
Troop E troopers have investigated 27 fatal crashes for the year of 2011, resulting in 28 fatalities.
