FINAL
COLTS FALL IN SUPER BOWL XLIV
By Matt Dollinger - Colts.com
A sweet season finished on a sour note Sunday, as the Colts lost to the New Orleans Saints in Super Bowl XLIV, 31-17.
After taking a 10-0 lead in the first quarter, the Saints clawed their way back to make it a 13-10 game early in the third quarter. The Colts would score a touchdown to re-take the lead, but two fourth-quarter touchdowns by the Saints sealed the victory.
In the losing effort, running back Joseph Addai rushed 13 times for 77 yards and a touchdown. Manning finished 31-of-44 for 333 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

5:17 pm cst well, the saints lost but it was a great year. it was probably the weather and statistics as well as turnovers -- before the game fox sports said that domed teams were 0-9 in beating outdoor teams in championship games. in the past fox sports has said that teams that make four or more turnovers almost always lose. the saints had at least four turnovers that we know of.

about the most eventful day in saints history
this afternoon on ringside radio, mark clark from blackandgold.net told host jeff crouere that yesterday was the most eventful day in saints history.
first off saints owner tom benson told the team and staff that new orleans is unliveable. that the facilities on airline drive are occupied by fema and the federal government and that they arent useable. this is despite the fact that nfl commissioner paul tagliabue toured the facility just over a week ago and pronounced it in "first-class" condition.
clark told about saints quarterback aaron brooks how he had complained in a media interview monday about how awful the saints facilities are in san antonio, texas. jim haslett yesterday offered his resignation.
other tidbits include mr clark stating that he believes that "this is an organization thats in complete chaos thats being run by a man who might have dementia or may have alzheimers or something"
"the nfl is intently watching...this is really a tough time right now"
clark prediction: jim haslett will be coaching in buffalo next year.

that was a great game. theres nothing that we can add -- other than we'll probably be humming the above tune for the next couple of weeks. come to think of it ... that what dorothy is wearing looks like it could pass her off as a black and gold fan. rose's dress seems to match the colt's colors too.

scribd documents had a glitch
we just received an email from scribd which tells us that some of the documents we had uploaded there this weekend had some sort of "event" in which they were marked as private instead of public.
one of the documents inadvertently set to private by scribd is the vikings at saints game/stat sheets we had embedded in our previous post. we've reset it to public and regret the mix-up.In response to an event that occurred the weekend of 24-25 January 2010, the following documents have been made private and are only viewable by you.
If you intended these documents to be viewable to the general public, you can easily make them public by clicking the links below and changing the visibility from "Private - keep this document secret" to "Public - anyone can see this document":

Ashley Morris, tireless proponent of N.O.
Thursday, April 10, 2008
By John Pope
Staff writer
Ashley Morris, a passionate advocate for New Orleans who possessed the mind of a computer geek and the soul of a rabble-rouser, died April 2 in his sleep in Fort Myers, Fla. He was 44.
The cause of death has not been determined, said Ray Shea, a friend, who said that Mr. Morris had been in Florida to settle family legal matters.
Mr. Morris, who reached a worldwide audience with blunt blogs about New Orleans, loved his adopted hometown so much that he commuted every week to Chicago to teach computer science at DePaul University.
"Ashley divided the world into people who would fight for New Orleans and people who have abandoned us," Shea said. "If he thought you were a friend of New Orleans, you were a saint. All of his saints were the football players, or brass-band musicians, or chefs or anyone who did anything to try to save this city. Everyone else was the enemy."
Karen Gadbois, a neighborhood activist, remembered Mr. Morris as a man who "was not tempered by social conventions to stifle his own voice."
When it came to New Orleans, Mr. Morris wore his heart on his sleeve and his loyalty on his skin. Literally. When the Saints reached the playoffs at the end of the 2006 season, he had a giant fleur-de-lis tattooed on his right shoulder.
Although he was known mainly as an unseen online personality because of his postings at ashleymorris.typepad.com, he received global visual exposure via CNN in 2006, during the first post-Katrina Krewe de Vieux parade. Dressed as a French mime in convict stripes and white face makeup, he stood in a glass case bearing this appeal to the French president: "Buy us back, Chirac!"
"He was a character, a huge, big force of nature," Shea said of Mr. Morris, who weighed about 350 pounds. "He was part Lenny Bruce, part Thomas Jefferson and part Gerry Adams of Sinn Fein," the political wing of the Irish Republican Army.
Born in DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Mr. Morris earned an undergraduate degree at the University of Mississippi, where he was a drummer in the marching band, and a doctorate in computer science at Tulane University. He was an associate professor at DePaul.
In his classes and professional seminars, he always found a way to work New Orleans into the discussion, said Mark Moseley, a friend.
Mr. Morris had his students build databases that the federal government should have been using when Hurricane Katrina struck, Moseley said, and he wanted to teach a class on post-storm New Orleans.
Mr. Morris "loved living here, eating here and celebrating here," Moseley said. "He liked life, and he found it kind of distilled here."
Survivors include his wife, Hana Morris; a son, Rey d'Orleans Morris; and two daughters, Annabel and Katerina Morris.
A funeral will be held Friday at 1 p.m. at Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal St. Visitation will start at 10 a.m.
Burial will be in St. Louis Cemetery No. 3.

UPDATED nfl properties llc terminates wst... youtube channel
UPDATE: youtube reinstates wesawthat... youtube channel!
we've contacted youtube per their copyright clams dispute information to try and get the contact information at nfl properties llc to see if we can contact someone there directly and get them to reconsider and release their copyright claim. if so our account can be restored.
we've filed lots of counter-notifications. youtube's content identification tool isnt that reliable. for instance sometimes fox news or one of the others would try to claim a c-span public domain video of ours to put ads on the watch page or in the video. obviously a mistake. so we would always file counter-notifications to get their copyright claim lifted.
there was another instance too where nbc filed a copyright claim against our short clip of president obama making his special olympics remark on the tonight show with jay leno. nbc relented and that video was eventually restored.
it looks like they have changed the counter-notification procedure since our last one. this one says
After we receive your counter-notification, we will forward it to the party who submitted the original claim of copyright infringement. Please note that when we forward the counter-notification, it includes your personal information. By submitting a counter-notification, you consent to having your information revealed in this way. We will not forward the counter-notification to any party other than the original claimant.so naturally we dont want to file a counter-notification until we can find out from someone in legal at nfl properties llc that they will let it go through. maybe they can and will reverse it on their end.
After we send out the counter-notification, the claimant must then notify us within 10 business days that he or she has filed an action seeking a court order to restrain you from engaging in infringing activity relating to the material on YouTube.
If we receive such notification we will be unable to restore the material. If we do not receive such notification, we may reinstate the material.
so we shall see what happens.
meanwhile...massachusetts institute of technology's research project, youtomb* has more information about videos that nfl properties llc has issued takedown notices for.
*YouTomb is a research project of MIT Free Culture. The purpose of the project is to investigate what kind of videos are subject to takedown notices due to allegations of copyright infringement with particular emphasis on those for which the takedown may be mistaken. Although our initial focus is on videos hosted by YouTube, we are interested in other video collections as well.
UPDATE 18 february 2010 paul jackson, esq. the nfl's copyright agent for notice of claims of copyright infringement calls and explains the nfl's trademark protection policy.
the bottom line is that the nfl's position is ... they own everything. exclusively. and will aggressively protect their property.
the nfl will not negotiate a fair use copyright claim or negotiate any alternative at all. nor will they reverse any infringement claim notices they've executed.
so as far as youtube and the nfl is concerned expect any upload there containing any video of any length from any nfl game to have a copyright claim executed on it.
audio of paul jackson returning a call from someone in louisiana who had called for more information about a video clip
Presentation of the Vince Lombardi Trophy to the New Orleans Saints
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8ZL-YATxt0
he had added to youtube that was taken down on orders of the nfl.(nfl properties llc)
his youtube account was also terminated so all of his other videos was deleted.
in a last ditch effort he contacted the national football league in an attempt to work something out and hopefully get the copyright infringement claim reversed and his youtube account restored.
this is what happened...
The National Football League’s mission is to produce a premier entertainment product that appeals to the broadest possible audience.
As part of that effort, we encourage fans and potential fans to identify with the NFL and their favorite team in a variety of ways.
Those efforts include ensuring that fans of all teams have access to a broad variety of high quality, appealing consumer products that bear NFL and team marks and logos.
Those promotional efforts have been successful: We are America’s most popular sport, with over 180 million fans.
~ gary gertzog, senior vice president and general counsel to the nfl in sworn testimony before the house judiciary committee, subcommittee on courts and competition policy 20 january 2010
