bill robinson announces for sheriff of rapides parish

according to the alexandria daily town talk story published 10 january 2007 (see link) bill robinson announced his candidacy for sheriff of rapides parish, tuesday 09 january 2007 before a crowd of about 100 people at the holiday inn convention center in downtown alexandria.

quite frankly mr. robinson isnt all that impressive. he comes off like the standard issue louisiana political panderer/huckster complete with all the prerequisite mantra's. mr. robinson is quoted as saying::
"We increased the number of 238 beds in the Rapides Parish jail to 1,000 beds -- we need more," Robinson said. "There's an increasing drug problem in the parish, and activities for youths will keep them away from drugs and crime."
mr. robinson wants to increase the beds in the rapides parish jail and with that comes the usual hiring of more deputies which would increase his political base because every deputy and their families are sure to vote for any harebrained self serving tax.

next on the standard mantra list is the so called drug problem. you ever notice how the police never arrest the people that are truly behind the drug problem? its always some poor schmuck with a couple of dime bags of weed. another thing they never talk about is going after all the white collar criminals and corruption around. now why do you suppose that is? mmmhmmm

next comes the kids and providing youth programs. well news flash but its not a parish's or a cities or a states or the federal governments job to provide babysitting services or to entertain the children and young people.

louisiana politics so transparent, so predictable, so pathetic.

Watch out, you're starting to sound like a conservative!

    2. Good points; in response to your comment regarding law enforcement going after poor schmucks with dime bags: I have heard several officers express their frustrations because they have arrested several high profile drug pushers who have come out scott clean by the DA's office. it is not only the responsibility of law enforcement to ARREST drug pushers, but the DA's office needs to do a better job PROSECUTING.

    3. thanks paw paw but actually we are so conservative that a lot of the time (for some unknown reason to us) we come across as liberals. lol.

charlie you are absolutely correct about our district attorney. that office needs an enema. one example: last night we were perusing the louisiana attorney disciplinary board website and we came across one case from 22 january 1998 involving local attorney thomas wahlder: WAHLDER, THOMAS B. 97-DB-061 "Present at the hearing were Office of Disciplinary Counsel, represented by Chief Counsel Charles B. Plattsmier, the respondent and his attorney, James C. Downs..." now correct us if we are wrong but wasnt mr. downs an assistant district attorney of and for rapides parish in 1998? so the question is why is a law enforcer representing an (a fellow) attorney (or anyone for that matter) accused of wrong doing? isnt that a conflict of interest? we are in a heck of a mess.

    4. Wesawthat: I also wanted to comment on Bill's proposal regarding more beds in the jail: my question is, who would pay for all of those new beds? I think there are better solutions to spending our tax money than buying more beds for the jail...especially since that would mean building a new jail to house all of those beds.

I do believe that we could implement some better reform incentives for those who get in trouble, but aren't beyond helping themselves out of it.

    5. well the building a new jail idea is a contrivance to get all the contractors and subcontractors support because everyone will get a slice of the pie from a new jail.

hiring more deputies means a payback because every tom, dick & harry as well as their sons and daughters will get a deadhead job at the sheriff department.

people fall for this strategy, even though its against their and their families best interest, over and over and over again.

    7. Hi, Sally. You may want to ask Bill about his plans. He has a tendency to say what the people want to hear, but does a poor job following through. His track record while employed with the RPSO speaks for itself regarding this. And, I'm sorry to say, there was NOT 300 people at Bill's announcement. That is stretching it, my dear.
