Alexandria Police Department Shooting
Earlier this afternoon, an Alexandria Police Department Officer was involved in a shooting.
The shooting occurred around 1:20 pm on Post Oak Boulevard in Alexandria, LA. Officers were dispatched to the scene after APD received several calls regarding a man walking in the street carrying a gun.
Once officers arrived, they observed the man, identified as Shel Randal Bohannon (W/M 42 yrs) of 723 Post Oak Boulevard, Alexandria, LA, walking in the street holding a shotgun.
Officers immediately began giving loud verbal commands for Bohannon to drop the weapon, but he refused to comply with the officers’ commands.
Then, Bohannon fired a shot into the air and he pointed the shotgun at the officers. Because of Bohannon’s actions, an officer fired his service weapon at Bohannon striking him in the upper leg.
Bohannon was transported to Rapides General Hospital. He is listed in moderate/severe condition at this time.
The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations/Alexandria Field Office responded to the scene at the request of the Alexandria Police Department to investigate the incident.
