r.i.p. "dixie"

dixie was a sweet dog. extremely timid around people and other dogs -- except puppies. she never had any but loved playing with them.

she seldom left the porch -- except to occasionally engage in perhaps her one vice -- barking at and chasing the cattle around the pasture.

sometimes when she approached, the cows would stand around and look back and forth at each other apparently amused at her aymondesque yapping. other times they would play along and run around like a grizzly bear was after them.

it's unknown what caused her demise. her remains were found in the cow pasture. it didnt appear that she suffered. there were no signs of any sort of trauma or injury.

dixie is interred in the family pet cemetery alongside all the other honored dead, including umpteen dogs, at least one steer and chickens, geese, goats, pigs, guineas, fish and peafowl.

repose en paix harry morgan

we were saddened to learn of yesterdays passing of the actor harry morgan nee harry bratsburg.

mr. morgan always played his roles well and his stern sounding voice was distinctive.

one role that he played that we've never forgotten was on a 24 september 1988 episode of the twilight zone called "the curious case of edgar witherspoon."

as far as we know it only aired that one time and was never repeated.

earlier this year when we were going through our hulu phase we did look for it there but to no avail.

the beatles "penny lane" trumpeter david mason dies

via: find-a-grave

David Mason
1926 - 2011

Musician. A trumpeter, he will be best remembered for his playing on The Beatles' classic hit "Penny Lane".

He attended Christ's Hospital School and the Royal College of Music before his service in the band of the Scots Guards.

His professional career began with the Royal Opera House, followed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and the New Philharmonia Orchestra (the latter he remained with the rest of his career). In addition, he served as a teacher at the Royal College of Music.

An impressed Paul McCartney who watched Mason perform requested him to play on the "Penny Lane" track in January 1967 and he was paid reportedly a $45.00 fee to do so.

His contributions helped yield one of the band's most popular hits, as he provided the unique B-flat piccolo trumpet sound heard throughout the song.

He also played on their classic hits "A Day in the Life" (1967), "Magical Mystery Tour" (1967), "All You Need Is Love" (1967) and "It's All Too Much" (1968). He died from leukemia. ~ find-a-grave
