first off this is nothing but a fluff piece designed to make the sheriff look good while totally ignoring or intentionally misdirecting the public's attention away from more important questions like on what date exactly was heath crawford employed by media general/kalb. was it before the run-off election of 17 november 2007? the only mention to that is briefly in mr. magnoli's write-up for the interview:

Sheriff Wagner says Heath Crawford (who was briefly employed in KALB's Marketing Dept) was not authorized to contact the news media with any statements for RPSO.

notice kalb puts that part within parenthesis as if its hardly worth mentioning, despite, the fact that sheriff wagner admits that mr. crawford worked on his campaign.

kalb and mr. magnoli have no excuses... especially when they spent hours on this blog today:

we've written before why we will not support former sheriff william earl hilton or any of his cronies for sheriff. it centers on his in perpetuity slave sales tax scam that this treasonous, traitorous rat together with his criminal friends on the rapides parish police jury back in 2002 sprung on the people of this parish. because of what these criminals did the city of alexandria and rapides parish now have (so far) three in perpetuity slave tax scams. people that are not even born yet will have to pay as well as collect these taxes with out ever being given the opportunity to vote on it. it's nothing but stealing. it's contrary to everything this country was founded upon as well as taxation without representation.

these two candidates are career tax feeders and if you think they are going to look out for anyones interests other than the courthouse gangs' you need to have your head examined. additionally, candidate linda lin dyess stewart's repeated reaching out to the alexandria, la. shyster, grifting greg aymond for support is evidence to us that she is not an honest, respectable person. further reinforcing this belief is aymond's unethical attempt apparently on behalf of the dyess machine at smearing robin hooter as a racist using what appears to be a staged (or photoshopped) photo involving of all things the confederate flag is just too incredible for words.

in the 2007 rapides parish sheriff's race much ta-doo was made over a rumor that should he win, kalb news director michele godard was going to become chuck wagner's public information officer. these rumors began around the time that ms. godard and kalb aired what some called hit pieces against mr. wagner's opponent mike slocum.

the first one called "race for rapides sheriff political maneuvering" was posted to kalb.com on 02 november 2007 on 05 november 2008 sheriff hilton responded with "rapides parish sheriff hilton responds to threat allegation" and that was followed on 07 november 2007 by "rpso deputies speak out."

on 13 november 2007 kalb hosted "rapides parish sheriff candidate debate" later that night on the 10:00 p.m..news, ms. godard and kalb general manager les golman in "kalb responds to biased reporting allegations" made a big deal out of reporting among other things that "mr. slocum’s campaign made demands on news channel 5 for the removal of its news director michele godard from the scheduled debate"

there is probably a lot more sheriff race news videos on kalb.com and dont be surprised if they all suddenly disappear from kalb.


on thursday 15 november 2007 two days ahead of the run-off election ms. godard appeared on local talk radio station ksyl. according to the above clip from that appearance ms. godard was there to "represent the television station to clear up a couple of things." the very first question posed to her by dave graichen before even a good morning was "ok the big question i got michele are you going to go work as p.r. for the sheriff's department?" after a round of laughter by all, ms. godard responds "no of course not i'am not qualified for that job...i wouldnt even know how to be a p.i.o. i have some suggestions of course"

the end result was that chuck wagner prevailed over mike slocum by some 1,398 votes. on electronic voting machines we might add.

for a politician, you know you're not having a very 'good friday' when a prominent reverend comes out and publicly calls you 'unprofessional' and a liar but that is exactly what courageous reverend doctor james s. hardison, sr. of the greater live oak baptist church has done regarding new rapides parish sheriff charles "chuck" wagner.

in a "your mail" letter posted as a .pdf to the gannett/town talk's website, rev. dr. hardison recounts the very unkind treatment hes witnessed and experienced first hand being meted out by sheriff wagner.

rev. dr. hardison writes that "everything that sheriff wagner promised that he would not do while on his campaign trail, those are the exact things that he has done since being elected. nobody would be hired from the state police, that was a lie; nobody would be fired, that was a lie; i am a witness to that."

rev. dr. hardison goes on to write that "others in the department have been demoted..." and recounts what he has witnessed happening to major sammy thiels, who was moved out of his office and given a small room that was previously used as a break room. this is an old school louisiana political tactic, wasnt it huey long who had a disagreement with another politician and had his office moved to a bathroom?

in abbey brown's town talk article 'wagner says politics not involved in three terminations' she writes that "wagner said wednesday that he wasn't terminating hardison, just eliminating his salary and sheriff's vehicle." err, uhh, hmmm. ya know the sheriff seems to have a problem with honesty and truthfulness and he likes to insult peoples intelligence, coz when your job is eliminated and you didnt initiate it - thats being fired. besides, the sheriff's letter to rev. dr. hardison says different. (.pdf page 5)

ms. brown also writes about the termination of lt. raymond edwards. "wagner said little about the termination of edwards. "i'd rather not comment on that," he said. "it's just something that i felt was in the best interest of the department."

although ms. brown didnt address it in her article a regular town talk story chat commenter, ewesyourhead commented this morning that lt. edwards was three months away from retirement. now we dont know lt. edwards, he might be the most incompetent policeman this side of roscoe p. coltrane, but he had put in all those years and to be fired just days away from retirement, without any explanation, especially in these tumultuous times we are in, is just sinful. the sheriff ought to be ashamed or state the reason he fired lt. edwards.

as far as getting rid of the deadwood -- when is sheriff wagner going to let go charles frederick smith and roosevelt johnson from the sheriff's "payroll?" now these two, who are also city of alexandria, la. councilmen have a long documented history of extremely dubious actions just as city councilmen that shows that they shouldnt have any authority over the citizens of this parish - especially with the weight of the law and the state behind them.

ya know, if the town talk continues to read blogs - thats blogs plural, they might finally learn just what their readers expect of them and how to do investigative journalism.

in todays town talk (see link) reporter abbey brown apparently delivers the goods. for instance we learn that a chuck wagner campaign worker: mr. heath crawford, was hired by media general/kalb on 12 november 2007 which was five days before the run-off election and three days before kalb news director michele godard went on ksyl radio to talk about kalb's hi-falutin media standards.

after reading ms. brown's town talk story one is left wondering whether or not mr. crawford gave ms. godard any tips on what to say in her interview or if he gave any suggestions to any of the pro-wagner supporters, like for example karla ryder and her husband kurt ryder who called in that morning.

ms. godard's own words in that interview would seem to indicate that media general/kalb was unethical in hiring a wagner campaign worker during a political campaign and while at the same time they were engaged in a major media campaign (err hatchet job, err news report) against mr. wagner's opponent - mike slocum.

this morning [730-8] on the ksyl talk back preshow [podcast friday's show when/if available] a caller phoned in to recite the old line that rapides parish, la., sheriff chuck wagner stopped the rural patrol and closed substations.

while we're not totally sure about substation closings, we havent heard of any closing, the part about sheriff wagner decreasing or stopping the rural patrol is provably wrong.

under the previous sheriff, who was sheriff for sixteen years, william earl hilton, rural areas rarely saw a patrol car go by, which is not a bad thing -- no one is complaining about that. but, why would wagner detractors insist in repeating this line when anyone who lives in a rural area of rapides parish can tell you that sheriff wagner has not in any way that a regular citizen can tell, stopped or cut back rural patrol but in fact appears to have implemented one!

since sheriff wagner came into office three years ago, its become routine for rural rapides parish residents to see a sheriff deputy over the course of the day out on patrol 4 - 6 times. over night probably more.

the rural patrol deputies that we've personally encountered have been extremely helpful and kind. when we had jury duty the bailiffs and other court personnel under the sheriff were all very professional and courteous in moving things along.

for the record though, the rapides parish sheriff's office has had great people as far back as we can remember to sheriff marshall t. cappel.

as far as closing the substations, if any were indeed closed, perhaps, rpso is converting that money into manpower for rural patrols.

local blogger pawpaw's house recently recounted an rpso deputy's first visit to the main office in awhile, who was impressed by the recently added technological innovations.

one criticism we can offer on sheriff wagner is that so far he hasnt lifted one finger to have that illegal and immoral 2003 sheriff's office 1% in perpetuity sales tax rescinded and put on the ballot at regular intervals for a vote of the people like its supposed to be.

in case you didnt know it, the in perpetuity slave tax was promulgated by sheriff wagner's predecessor now turned opponent william earl hilton aided and abetted by the rapides parish police jury.

so on principal we wont be voting for william earl hilton.(or jamie floyd in the clerk of court race.)

its possible that a few surprise candidates enter the race.

first off -- we hope that today is a once-in-a-lifetime lousiest election because it's definitely the lousiest election that we've ever seen.

the democratic party is totally neutered and those what remain of louisiana democrats today wouldnt even get behind a candidate. tara hollis was the hardest working democratic candidate yet received no support from the state party.

while we voted for the libertarian, scott lewis, we hope that ms. hollis does well too.

rapides sheriff - mark baden

all along we had toyed with the notion to vote for mr. baden as a protest vote. then we had made up our mind to vote for sheriff wagner.

as we've said from the beginning, we'd never, ever consider voting for william earl hilton because of the 2003 in perpetuity slave sales tax scam that he as sheriff, together with his ungodly brethren -- the freemasons, for the banksters, placed on the head of every rapides parish citizen even those unborn;

who will never be given the opportunity to vote for this tax yet will have to pay it and collect it. that's wrong. it's unamerican, it's treasonous, it's traitorous.

the supreme irony of which is that the chief law enforcement officer (that law being the constitution) is the first in line to wipe his ass with the constitution ... for money. that's louisiana. and of course sheriff wagner in his four years has not lifted one finger to stop it.

then we read a recent post on his personal blog, about mr. baden by pineville, la. city councilman nathan martin ... we reasoned, if you can call it that, aww what the hell.

clerk of court -- brian thompson. we feel that mr. thompson being a customer of the clerk of court would be most knowledgeable in making the office more accessible and user friendly.

despite what anyone says to the contrary, these town talk scans attest to the fact that it was mr. thompson as far back as 22 may 2011 who was originally talking about the high taxes the clerk of court charges including the exorbitant $600 per year premium subscription tax to access the clerk's website when its clearly not worth a fraction of that. all that despite the clerk has several millions of dollars in cash reserve.

the other clerk of court candidates are just tax-feeders who have nothing new and innovative to offer.

sec'y of state - tom schedler. both lousy choices and neither will do anything to get rid of electronic voting machines either.

lt. governor - billy nungesser. jay dardenne is a liberal rino. mr. nungesser might be one too. however, mr. dardenne has the voting record to prove it.

ag commissioner - belinda alexandrenko. like dardenne, strain is a voting record verified rino.

rapides parish police jury dist "c" - danny joe daniels. this one is a crap shoot and hopefully there will be a runoff between somebody.

tax assessor parish of rapides -- rick ducote. not much to tell here.

insurance commissioner - donelon again not much to tell.

bese board - keith guice. we voted for him last time. we havent paid much attention to the bese board but from what we've read over the past 4 years it seems like mr. guice is a standup guy.

other than some anonymous flyers which appeared last year, this year the 2011 rapides parish sheriff's race has been mostly quiet up till now that elect william earl hilton sheriff signs began appearing around the parish.

for the past month or so, we've noticed by referral logs an increasing interest by googlers from around cenla and the state for any tidbit on the 2011 race.

this is seen in the many recent commentators in several of our threads from the 2007 sheriff election like these:

Hilton is smiling all the way to the bank!!! He is no idiot, he knows how to raise money for elections. Not everyone donates by a check, he likes CASH. CASH for deputy position with benefits is a worth plenty of CASH!!! He failed during his last term as Sheriff, letting his blackmailer, Mike Slocum, take over the department. It was obivious he was supporting Slocum under duress. Our RSPO was held hostage because of his greed and fear of Slocum. They supported each other in public, but cussed each other in private. Our Parish is on the right track now, and the is no reason to open the door the corruption that follows Hilton and Slocum. WHy did Hilton have to buy 60 new police cars a year?? Sheriff Wagner has averaged about 10 new vehicles a year saving over $1,000,000 annually just there!

I heard Slocum and Hilton both pocketed over $50,000 cash each in 2007 when they tried the flim flam to let Slocum run instead of Hilton because Hilton had made his contribution as Sheriff and was ready to retire and take it easy. Now that they know Slocum could never become Sheriff, Hilton is the front man in this year's flim flam to make it look more sensible. Wagner has a strong record as our Sheriff.. So understand that all the whispering and rumors that will be spread by Hilton supporters are lies, and don't be fooled. Fear is the greatest motivator to get someone to do something. The parish is better off financially than when Hilton was Sheriff and much safer! Sheriff Wagner has stepped up all services by his office on about $2 Million less in tax revenues due to the economy.

once again the town talk's half-assed and shoddy reporting is apparent. in their most recent 'news' story posted to the town talk's website this morning (see link). again the town talk fails to get to the bottom of the heath crawford's r.p.s.o. employment/kalb/wagner campaign/email status.

why wont the town talk release or at the very least state from where mr. crawford's email(s) originated? oh and now we learn that mr. crawford faxed some news releases so what telephone number did these faxes originate from? this shouldnt be that hard to figure out since most fax machines stamp the originating telephone number at the top of the fax. as far as the emails thats even easier- did they come from an rpso email account and if so, then how did mr. crawford gain access to an rpso email account if he wasnt employed by or authorized by proper authority (the sheriff) to do so?

notice that the town talk has never bothered to print the dates of mr. crawford's kalb employment other than his last day at kalb was friday 15 february 2008. the town talk dont dare print that because if it is true that mr. crawford worked for kalb during the sheriff election then people would be questioning the town talk why they didnt report that a media general/kalb employee was working for the wagner campaign back during the sheriff election campaign. after all, the town talk endorsed mike slocum - or at least pretended to.

you think that central louisiana's media community dont know each other and know what the other is up to? they might not know what specific stories the other is working on at any given time but they do know each other and talk to each other. michele godard in her 15 november 2007 ksyl interview said that she talks to the town talk's abbey brown [.mp3 clip 560kb] who just happens to be the very same reporter who's writing these crawford/wagner stories.

dont forget the husband and wife team of jim leggett and babs zimmerman. jim leggett was at the town talk while babs zimmerman worked at kalb. isnt it reasonable to assume that they talked about developments with each other? perhaps even coordinating their respective 'news' organizations individual reports to sculpt the message about any given 'news' event?

its looking to us like the town talk probably inadvertently blew the lid off a massive scam involving kalb and the wagner campaign (notice that sheriff wagner has never denied that mr. crawford worked for his campaign) and now they cant do anything but offer up absurd, half-assed 'news' reports in an effort to control and misdirect the attention away from the real story at least until public attention wanes.

drugs are a political football just like abortion, school prayer, same sex marriage etc.; etc. what was extremely disappointing with both candidates is that there was not one word whatsoever about what the new sheriff whoever he may be, plans are for investigating white collar criminals and political and governmental corruption and abuse.

lets face it -- there wouldnt be a "drug problem" unless people high up in the government and business, for a profit, werent instigating and permitting it. this is why neither of these candidates impress us and why, tomorrow we very likely wont bother to cast ballots in this particular race.

mr. wagner tries to convince us that the "sheriffs office is a business" later on mr. wagner remarks to maj. slocum that "all the businesses, around this community, have seen you out politicking..." and still later on "meth is taking over our parish, employers are having trouble finding people to pass initial drug screens. when we have that problem, that is a serious problem and we have to do something about it and we have to reallocate our resources to put a stop to this and ill ensure that i'am out on the street to make sure that we do this." source

the sheriff department is not the muscle for business interests. mr. wagner sounds just like a republican with this rhetoric.

sources tell wst... that sheriff wagner is refusing to explain this rather disturbing development, especially in light of the fact that all during the sheriff election campaign, sheriff wagner always maintained that the parish was underpatrolled and how he intended to up the sheriff office patrols.

word on the street is that this is part and parcel with the the new sheriff's plan to eventually purge the sheriff's office of all hilton/slocum supporters to replace them with his own cronies...

a gannett/town talk editor, cynthia jardon, takes the rapides parish sheriff's office and some local media to task over the developing heath crawford/p.i.o. scandal.

the thing is though, is that the media, the town talk included, will not release mr. crawford's original and complete email(s) that touched off the firestorm to begin with.

for instance, if the media would release the complete email(s) with the headers intact, the public could see if the email(s) were sent by mr. crawford from an official rapides parish sheriff office email account such as webmaster@rpso.org [source: contact r.p.s.o.] or did they come from a non-rpso account such as a hotmail or yahoo email account. we could also check the originating i.p. number contained in the email header to see if it resolves from an official rpso email server or not.

in a 'news' article published by the town talk today it points out:

In an interview with The Town Talk on Friday regarding the e-mail sent by Crawford, Wagner did not mention that Crawford was not employed as the director of public affairs.

sheriff wagner released the above very oddly worded statement sometime yesterday that a town talk story chat commenter "rpcitizen" remarked:

The "letter" from the sheriff posted by the Town Talk reads as though it were written by a child. The letter (actually a paragraph) is written in both first and third person format, and there is no clarification at all regarding the employment of Heath Crawford.

meanwhile, kalb's mike magnoli is supposed to 'interview' sheriff wagner this morning about all this to be aired tonight at 6:00 pm.

sheriff hilton sat down with kalb's news director michele godard today and gave a pretty amazing and impressive interview to rebut kalb's story from friday 02 november 2007. that story can be found on kalb here or youtube here.

when asked if he had seen kalb's 02 november report, sheriff hilton replied that he had and that "it wasnt as good as it should be simply because one of the anonymous guys on there called me this morning and he was coerced into doing that." when asked by whom the sheriff said "the wagner camp."

now it doesnt make any sense how someone could be coerced by the "wagner camp," and makes us wonder if sheriff department personnel are men, mice, puppets or what. especially, when one considers that mike slocum is with the sheriff's department, maj. slocum was endorsed by the sheriff and maj. slocum led the primary election with some 48% of the vote to mr. wagner's 33%. so it would seem that all the power, momentum or whatever you want to call it would be on maj. slocum's side. but hey, after all this is louisiana and lawd knows the people here have lousy minds and cant think properly.


speaking of not thinking properly: sheriff hilton said that he was "disappointed" with chief detective herman walters and what he said in his interview. sheriff hilton said that detective walters "is a nervous type person, he's scared, he's paranoid, i met with him one sunday morning at leavines grocery in gardner and he told me some things then that was just totally ridiculous about things that he was imagining that was happening -- that wasnt happening..."

this isnt very comforting and makes us wonder how many other sheriff department personnel have mental problems. ho hum...

one part of the interview we found disturbing is towards the end when ms. godard tells sheriff hilton that the candidate that he supports, mike slocum, attempted to intimidate her on friday as she was producing her story.

according to ms. godard she said that mike slocum told her that "if you run this story and i win -- which i will win -- this news department will only receive information through a lawyer."

hmm words to ponder.

kalb getting set to do another fluff piece on rapides parish sheriff chuck wagner

in the easter sunday 10 pm news cast, kalb's leigh culbert announced that kalb will be sitting down this week with rapides parish, louisiana sheriff chuck wagner. you can tell its gonna be a fluff piece by the way its announced in that ms. culbert recites the obviously erroneous line that the staff changes are "part of the normal process any police agency goes through in its day-to-day operations." this is a patently disingenuous thing to say, considering all the documented evidence to the contrary. all kalb is trying to do here is subliminally plant that seed in your mind that everything is ok, its just normal bidness.

it must have been cases like this -- that led to those "boss wagner" radio ads.

although we supported and eventually voted to reelect chuck wagner as sheriff of rapides parish, we believed that his constant public bragging about all the drug arrests the sheriff's office had and were making was a big mistake.

while such talk might have been lauded twenty years ago, anyone of any reasonable intelligence now knows that the war on some drugs has been a colossal failure, has cost everyone a major loss of our freedoms, increased corruption as well as being a severe waste of taxpayer money -- so why is this all that he had to run for reelection on?

if only sheriff wagner had went after all the crooked politicians, governmental officials and white collar criminals who have always found refuge in rapides parish because they are protected by law enforcement, the district attorney and the judicial system -- with such abandon, he would have been sheriff for life. the citizenry would have demanded to have built a memorial to him on the court house grounds.

crooked politicians and corruption are what people are concerned about these days. not drugs.
