kalb: mike slocum campaign demanded michele godard be pulled from forum

rapides parish sheriff race

les golman and michele godard

we watched the kalb sheriff candidate debate/forum tonight and we gotta say we had been warming up to maj. mike slocum, because...well...he came off as a bigger prick than we are and in our book thats a definite plus.

then we sat down to watch the 10pm newscast and kalb ran the video (see link) interview with kalb station manager les golman to explain why news director michele godard was absent from the forum.

according to mr. golman last wednesday someone from the slocum campaign who he identified as david roach came by the station.
les golman says that mr. roach "presented himself as the advertising consultant for mike slocum. that meeting basically went similar to this - he did not want you (michele godard) as an individual to be involved in the upcoming debate. as a matter of fact [mr. roach] said his candidate [mike slocum] would not show up unless you declared the fact that that you were a supporter of his opponent. they were threats made by mr. roach in fact he would turn us over to the fcc commission. the decision to pull you off of the debate, tonight, was based on the fact that i felt like that our responsibility is to let the people know whats going on. they can make their decision. anytime anybody is put under the stress that would keep them from voting, you know, i think that point is bigger than the sheriff, the sheriff's department, mr. roach and certainly kalb television, so, therein is why, you were pulled off, not because of threats by mr. roach."
the problem with this is that neither ms. godard or mr. golman ever say whether or not ms. godard is a supporter of maj. slocum's opponent. that would seem like a very important and obvious question to answer;

one that should be answered. especially, since kalb are the ones making it an issue by airing this in what they style as "KALB Responds To Biased Reporting Accusations." so the fact that mr. golman or ms. godard and especially ms. godard didnt explicity deny it leads us to believe that the slocum campaign accusation is true.

what makes us uneasy about maj. slocum in all this (besides his enabling kalb to make him look childish and petty) is that he's been a police officer for twenty something years and yet is afraid of or cant outwit ms. godard at her own game. how in the world can we expect maj. slocum to outwit or show his deputy's how to finesse professional and in a lot of cases lifelong criminals who's stock in trade is deception?

ho hum back to the drawing board.

    and the baden jogger.

other than some anonymous flyers which appeared last year, this year the 2011 rapides parish sheriff's race has been mostly quiet up till now that elect william earl hilton sheriff signs began appearing around the parish.

for the past month or so, we've noticed by referral logs an increasing interest by googlers from around cenla and the state for any tidbit on the 2011 race.

this is seen in the many recent commentators in several of our threads from the 2007 sheriff election like these:
2011 RSPO Race commented on - we saw that...

Hilton is smiling all the way to the bank!!! He is no idiot, he knows how to raise money for elections. Not everyone donates by a check, he likes CASH. CASH for deputy position with benefits is a worth plenty of CASH!!! He failed during his last term as Sheriff, letting his blackmailer, Mike Slocum, take over the department. It was obivious he was supporting Slocum under duress. Our RSPO was held hostage because of his greed and fear of Slocum. They supported each other in public, but cussed each other in private. Our Parish is on the right track now, and the is no reason to open the door the corruption that follows Hilton and Slocum. WHy did Hilton have to buy 60 new police cars a year?? Sheriff Wagner has averaged about 10 new vehicles a year saving over $1,000,000 annually just there!

    ====
Keep Wagner Sheriff commented on - we saw that...:

I heard Slocum and Hilton both pocketed over $50,000 cash each in 2007 when they tried the flim flam to let Slocum run instead of Hilton because Hilton had made his contribution as Sheriff and was ready to retire and take it easy. Now that they know Slocum could never become Sheriff, Hilton is the front man in this year's flim flam to make it look more sensible. Wagner has a strong record as our Sheriff.. So understand that all the whispering and rumors that will be spread by Hilton supporters are lies, and don't be fooled. Fear is the greatest motivator to get someone to do something. The parish is better off financially than when Hilton was Sheriff and much safer! Sheriff Wagner has stepped up all services by his office on about $2 Million less in tax revenues due to the economy.
    ====
WE'RE BACK commented on - we saw that...:

You say hilton was good for a few years? He was sheriff alittle longer than a few years he ran the department right and was good to his people, he took care of us and we will take care of him. All of you ignorant people can keep tellin lies after lies but the truth will all come out in the end and when ya'll are cryin and wagners at home eating his pain pills and hugged up to his girlfriend i'll be sittin back laughin, o and il be getting my job back, YALL JUST COUNT DOWN THE DAYS BOYS WE ARE COMIN BACK..... - rapides parish sheriff's race: hilton strikes back

rapides parish sheriff's race: hilton strikes back

rapides parish sheriff william earl hilton

sheriff hilton sat down with kalb's news director michele godard today and gave a pretty amazing and impressive interview to rebut kalb's story from friday 02 november 2007. that story can be found on kalb here or youtube here.

when asked if he had seen kalb's 02 november report, sheriff hilton replied that he had and that "it wasnt as good as it should be simply because one of the anonymous guys on there called me this morning and he was coerced into doing that." when asked by whom the sheriff said "the wagner camp."

now it doesnt make any sense how someone could be coerced by the "wagner camp," and makes us wonder if sheriff department personnel are men, mice, puppets or what. especially, when one considers that mike slocum is with the sheriff's department, maj. slocum was endorsed by the sheriff and maj. slocum led the primary election with some 48% of the vote to mr. wagner's 33%. so it would seem that all the power, momentum or whatever you want to call it would be on maj. slocum's side. but hey, after all this is louisiana and lawd knows the people here have lousy minds and cant think properly.

speaking of not thinking properly: sheriff hilton said that he was "disappointed" with chief detective herman walters and what he said in his interview. sheriff hilton said that detective walters "is a nervous type person, he's scared, he's paranoid, i met with him one sunday morning at leavines grocery in gardner and he told me some things then that was just totally ridiculous about things that he was imagining that was happening -- that wasnt happening..."

this isnt very comforting and makes us wonder how many other sheriff department personnel have mental problems. ho hum...

one part of the interview we found disturbing is towards the end when ms. godard tells sheriff hilton that the candidate that he supports, mike slocum, attempted to intimidate her on friday as she was producing her story.

according to ms. godard she said that mike slocum told her that "if you run this story and i win -- which i will win -- this news department will only receive information through a lawyer."

    hmm words to ponder.

follow the link to the interview which runs 18m47s.

Club Retro now Swamp Dawgz; owners the same

The Alexandria nightclub that was the scene of numerous drug and firearm arrests in a February raid has a new name.

However, the club that used to be Club Retro and now is Swamp Dawgz has the same owners, Dar and Lyle Doublet, who were also arrested in February's raid.

Donna Andries of the Rapides Parish Sales and Use Tax Department said her department's records indicate Swamp Dawgz is owned by the Doublets and that their liquor license was not been revoked in the wake of the raid.
Andries said only felony arrests can lead to the revocation of a liquor license.

    Hearing conducted
The state Office of Alcohol & Tobacco Control conducted a hearing with the Doublets in the wake of the raid, agency legal counsel Brian DeJean confirmed.

DeJean declined comment on the hearing results and referred further questioning to Commissioner Murphy Painter.

Stacey Roberts, a regional manager with Alcohol Beverage Control, declined comment and also referred questions to Painter.

Telephone calls placed to Painter's office were not returned Thursday.

According to police records, the February raid resulted in more than 100 citations and 22 arrests during the weekend raid at the Vandenburg Drive building serving as the site of Club Retro.

Authorities said they found drugs and weapons on the premises.

The Doublets could not be reached for comment Thursday. Several messages left at the club for the Doublets during the past three weeks were not returned.

The Doublets' attorney, George Higgins, initially agreed on Thursday to speak with The Town Talk but could not be reached later.

The Doublets were arrested on various charges, including possession of a firearm on the premises of an alcohol beverage outlet, having an alcohol beverage outlet open after 2 a.m. and being over capacity by 142, according to police records.

The Doublets each were issued more than 100 citations of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile, according to police records.

Police said the citations were issued for people under the age of 21 being in the bar.

Rapides Parish Sheriff's officials reported the raid was the result of complaints and a drug investigation.

    Children in bar
When officers arrived at the Alexandria night spot, according to police records, they found a 4-year-old sitting at the bar and children as young as 13 years old inside.

The majority of the Doublets' charges were for code violations, police reports showed.

One woman allegedly suffered moderate injuries after being trampled when patrons stampeded as officers arrived, police records show.

Deputies said there were about 1,000 people in the building when they arrived. Narcotics agents said they discovered items such as marijuana, powder cocaine, Ecstasy pills, Watson and Xanax bars during the search, and that the drugs were being sold openly inside and outside the club.

    town talk's take....

More than 100 cited, 22 arrested in club raid

More than 100 people were cited, 22 arrested and one trampled during a weekend raid at a Vandenburg Drive night club, where authorities allegedly found drugs and weapons.

The Sunday morning raid at Club Retro, said Rapides Parish Sheriff's Capt. James Raul, was the result of complaints and a drug investigation. When officers arrived at the Alexandria nightspot, they found a 4-year-old sitting at the bar and children as young as 13 inside, said Rauls, supervisor of Metro Narcotics.

Many were arrested for warrants, but some were booked on drug charges. The citations were issued for people under the age of 21 being in a bar.

The club's owners, brothers Dar Doublet and Lyle Doublet, were among those arrested. One of their wives -- Erica Doublet -- also was arrested, Rauls said. The 4-year-old belonged to one of the owners, Metro Narcotics agents said. The majority of their charges were for code violations.

The Doublets referred questions to their attorney, George Higgins.

Higgins said his clients went to the Sheriff's Office last week, because they wanted to be in compliance. He said his clients are "good folks trying to run a legitimate business."

No shots were fired Saturday night or Sunday morning, Sheriff's Maj. Mike Slocum said.

The one person injured was trampled when patrons began to stampede as officers arrived, Slocum said. The unidentified woman was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment after being checked out by a doctor, who is part of the team that responds to a raid. Slocum said the woman's injuries were not serious.

There were about 1,000 people in the building when officers arrived, Slocum said. Between 100 and 200 people got away, Rauls estimated, before officers could secure the building.

Besides the arrests and citations, officers seized drugs and four weapons inside Club Retro, Rauls said.

When the lights in the club came on, the floor was covered with drugs and alcohol bottles, Rauls said.

Officers reported no major incidents, but at least one person was upset over the raid.

Sandra Washington, a promoter with Big Business Entertainment, the Texas-based production company that organized the rap show at Club Retro on Saturday night and Sunday morning, said law-enforcement officers acted in an unprofessional manner during the raid.

Although no charges or reports of police brutality have been filed, Washington said that she witnessed officers shoving and cursing bar patrons.

She also was upset that her body guard, Bryce Mouton, had been arrested for carrying a concealed weapon. Mouton allegedly told officers that he was carrying a handgun and had a permit for it, Washington said.

"How could he be concealing a weapon if he told the cops that he had one. ... That doesn't make any sense," Washington said.

Washington also claims that officers seized about $12,000 that belonged to her company.

Washington said she is still in shock, but has been consulting lawyers concerning the way officers treated her and other representatives of her company.

"We have been all over the U.S. and have never seen anything like it. It was almost like we were in a terrorist country," she said.

Rauls and Slocum said the raid came after members of the community complained that the club was staying open after the 2 a.m. closing time, had cars blocking Vandenburg Drive, was allowing juveniles inside, and was allowing the sale of illegal drugs.

Metro Narcotics agents' investigation "found that narcotics such as marijuana, powder cocaine, Ecstasy pills, Watson and Xanax bars, etc., were being sold in the club openly and outside the club as well," Rauls states in a media release.

Officers also witnessed the club staying open past its 2 a.m. closing time even though the Sheriff's Office had warned the owners, officials said.

Officers with Metro Narcotics, Rapides Parish sheriff's SWAT team, line division and corrections, Alexandria Police Department's Special Response Team, state Probation and Parole, Alcohol Tobacco Control and Rapides Parish fire marshals returned to Club Retro on Sunday morning.

The Doublets were arrested on various charges, including possession of a firearm on premises of an alcohol beverage outlet, having an alcohol beverage outlet open after 2 a.m. and over capacity by 142. Erica Doublet was charged with possession of a firearm and improper supervision of a minor.

Rauls said warrants would be issued for more than 100 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile.

RPSO displays evidence from Club Retro raid
Rapides Parish Sheriff's officials displayed Wednesday evidence seized from an early Sunday morning raid on Club Retro, located on Vandenburg Drive.

A variety of Ecstasy and Xanax pills, marijuana blunts, a Glock 40 and FN 75 gun were among the items taken in the raid. RPSO Maj. Mike Slocum said the FN 75 gun was an "unusual" find, because it fires .223-round ammunition that can pierce police vests.

The guns were found in the club's business office and state law prohibits firearms in clubs, Slocum said.

George Higgins, attorney for brothers Dar and Lyle Doublet, who were leasing Club Retro, said he won't argue charges that the club was in violation of firearms and fire code violations. He said his clients had not had a previous record of law violations and they had always maintained security and ID checks at the club.

"The fact that a club that holds over 500 people, and has a large under-25 crowd and the fact that a small percentage had (drug) contraband on them will not surprise a lot of those reading this paper," Higgins said.

dirty politicking in rapides parish sheriff race alleged

we have idea which rapides parish sheriff candidate we are going to vote for in the 17 november 2007 run-off election or if we are even going to cast ballots in this particular race.

anyway, kalb broadcast a pretty good report (see link) at 6:00 this evening about some "allegations that some sheriff department employees are being forced to support one of the two candidates."

kalb's story centers around a list detective bobby sandoval and detective adrian lamkin is carrying around for everyone to sign. two sheriff department employees claim that their jobs are being threatened if they do not sign their name to the list and contribute $10.00 to mike slocum's campaign. this list of names is scheduled to be printed in local newspapers as a political ad show of sheriff department support for mike slocum. detectives sandoval and lamkin maintain that signing the list is voluntary.

detective sandoval you might remember was one of the guys who contrary to the law according to ninth judicial district court judge donald johnson and affirmed by the third circuit court of appeals, the rapides parish district attorney's office leaked secret grand jury testimony to in the amanda gutweiler hypes investigation. that case is scheduled to be heard by the louisiana supreme court on 27 november 2007.

meanwhile, yesterday the editorial ding-bats over at the town talk put in their two cents worth of bullshit regarding the rapides parish sheriff run-off. instead -- instead...of using their editorial pulpit to demand that the new sheriff focus on something worthwhile like oh say all the rampant political and governmental corruption not to mention all the white collar crime, the town talk predictably takes the low road and chooses to focus on the so called "drug war."

the reality is that every family in rapides parish has at least one person who uses drugs, whether its marijuana, meth, cocaine, crack, etc. the town talk is so backward thinking they would like to see about a third to a half or more of the parish locked up and the rest of us tasked with even more taxes to pay for it.

using drugs and being addicted to drugs is a disease its not a crime. thats not to say that an adult who gives a child drugs to hook them and to turn them into a customer just like an adult who buys alcohol for a minor isnt a criminal and shouldnt be prosecuted because they should. the so called war on some drugs is a fraud and a sham its been going on since at least the 1930's and theres more drugs available now than ever before. this kind of editorial tripe on the part of the town talk makes one wonder if they ever read their own paper and if so and this is still the best they can come up with -- just what kind of drugs they are on.

we dont know about you but no "dopehead" has ever done anything to harm us. while white collar criminals, governmental and political crooks who have always been given a pass a wink and free reign by our do-nothing district attorney, our sheriff department, the state police, attorney general and local police forces sure have.

did media general/kalb fail to disclose a conflict of interest in the 2007 rapides parish sheriff's race?

UPDATE: did the central la media and sheriff chuck wagner just get punk'd?

in the 2007 rapides parish sheriff's race much ta-doo was made over a rumor that should he win, kalb news director michele godard was going to become chuck wagner's public information officer. these rumors began around the time that ms. godard and kalb aired what some called hit pieces against mr. wagner's opponent mike slocum.

the first one called "race for rapides sheriff political maneuvering" was posted to kalb.com on 02 november 2007 on 05 november 2008 sheriff hilton responded with "rapides parish sheriff hilton responds to threat allegation" and that was followed on 07 november 2007 by "rpso deputies speak out."

on 13 november 2007 kalb hosted "rapides parish sheriff candidate debate" later that night on the 10:00 p.m..news, ms. godard and kalb general manager les golman in "kalb responds to biased reporting allegations" made a big deal out of reporting among other things that "mr. slocum’s campaign made demands on news channel 5 for the removal of its news director michele godard from the scheduled debate"

there is probably a lot more sheriff race news videos on kalb.com and dont be surprised if they all suddenly disappear from kalb.

on thursday 15 november 2007 two days ahead of the run-off election ms. godard appeared on local talk radio station ksyl. according to the above clip from that appearance ms. godard was there to "represent the television station to clear up a couple of things." the very first question posed to her by dave graichen before even a good morning was "ok the big question i got michele are you going to go work as p.r. for the sheriff's department?" after a round of laughter by all, ms. godard responds "no of course not i'am not qualified for that job...i wouldnt even know how to be a p.i.o. i have some suggestions of course"

the end result was that chuck wagner prevailed over mike slocum by some 1,398 votes. on electronic voting machines we might add.

    link

on election night, saturday 17 november 2007, michele godard interviewed chuck wagner [video] among the first words out of sheriff-elect wagner's mouth were "i want to thank bill [robinson] and his family and his supporters for coming out and getting behind us and we're just truly blessed." that night the last question asked of mr. wagner by ms. godard was "alright let's clear the air here - are you going to hire me as your p.i.o.?" mr. wagner said "thats not true. i know the rumors going around but you know i've put everything in writing, what i was going to do. it's on my website, if you havent seen it i encourage you to go look at it and thats what i did i put it in writing, so i can be held accountable and thats what government needs to do - not only the sheriff's office, but any office needs to be held accountable and i look forward to that." in lightof recent revelations, one has to wonder if the viewers werent the butt of a huge inside joke that night.

now flash forward to 16 february 2008 and the town talk story by abbey brown "new policy restricts media's access to employees of sheriff's office" (download two page .pdf here) we learn that the sheriff wagner's new p.i.o. is heath crawford. the town talk reports that mr. crawford "most recently worked at kalb-tv as a producer and in marketing." no thanks to the town talk and their trademark half-assed reporting (notice how they always leave out the most obvious and most important parts of stories) doesnt bother to find out or if they did find out the town talk suppressed the date that mr. crawford began work at kalb.

although the town talk reported that mr. crawford said that "his last day at kalb was friday." which would have been friday 15 february 2008 there is some confusion there too, because a press release from the rapides parish sheriff's office by mr. crawford dated thursday 14 february 2008 is posted to kalb.com:

not much is known about mr. crawford. the internet movie database mini-biography entry for 'director heath crawford' ends in 2004. although, the filmography lists mr. crawford as working in 2006 and 2007 as a camera operator for several episodes of "my own" jennifer lopez.

mr. crawford's myspace is set to private but a blurb that is publicly viewable, mr. crawford assures us that he is "a lover not a fighter...but i'll still kick your ass!!"

mr. crawford's website at www.outoflinefilms.com doesnt have contain any biographical information either. it does list two addresses in the contact information, one in north hollywood, california and one in alexandria. louisiana.

so the obvious question that everyone should be asking is when did mr. crawford go to work at kalb? was he working at kalb during the 2007 rapides parish sheriff race when he was also candidate bill robinson's campaign manager and then chuck wagner's campaign manager? did he produce any of the news stories or the candidate forum 'debates'? if so, why wasnt any of this disclosed by kalb?

these are important questions that need answering especially due to mr. crawfords profession as a "director" and "producer" and his hollywood connection. the kennedy-nixon presidential debates in 1960 showed the power of television as an instrument of political manipulation...

back at 21 february 2007, charlie over at thoughts from rapides... posted (see link) that the rapides parish sheriff candidate campaign finance reports are available at the state ethics board website. charlie noted that "RPSO Major Mike Slocum and also pharmaceutical sales rep Chuck Wagner are available" but "For some reason, Bill Robinson's is not on there." since we subscribe to charlies rss feed we knew about his post that day and we went over to the state ethics website but we couldnt find any of the campaign finance reports.

if you have ever been on the state ethics website you probably know what we are talking about. that website is probably in the top five most important state websites (at least for us political junkies) and quite frankly it is a (pardon our french...not really) clusterfuck. the website is amateurish at best and probably made to be confusing and practically unnavigable to the novice internet user at worst. it needs a total overhaul and streamlining. earlier this week there was a dust up over on emily metzgars blog because, among other things, she pointed out in her weekly shreveport times column some of what she feels is shortcomings on the state legislature website. clerk of the louisiana house of representatives, butch speer even wrote a comment taking issue with ms. metzgar. we spend some time on the state legislature website and find it to be pretty easy to navigate around and find information on. some, if not all of the things ms. metzgar suggests are certainly good ideas but in our view making the state ethics board website user friendly should be the highest priority.

anyway, like we said we looked around on the ethics board website for all of the rapides sheriff race candidate campaign financials that were available -- then earlier tonight someone out of the blue sent us maj. mike slocum's campaign report and so we have posted it. we will post the others when we find them or if someone sends them to us. this blog accepts anonymous comments so if you have the url to either/and or all of the candidate reports please feel free to leave it in the comments. thanks

rapides parish sheriff race: a deputy on 'intimidation'

'paw paw' is a local blogger who just happens to be a rapides parish sheriff's deputy and a slocum supporter.

in a recent blog post (see link) 'paw paw' weighs in on the 'intimidation' factor some deputy's are complaining of in the upcoming (17 november 2007) rapides sheriff race run-off between maj. mike slocum and chuck wagner.

although we havent decided who we will vote for or even if we will bother to vote in this particular race, we agree with paw paw when he writes:

Lawmen shouldn’t be easily intimidated. If you are easily intimidated, either by the people or by your bosses, then you will do things that aren’t in keeping with your oath. The oath of a lawman is a powerful thing and requires that you might spend your life in keeping it.

I find that during this political campaign, there are a number of deputies who say they’ve been intimidated.

    I say Bullshit.

club retro - operation retro-fit police raid videos

    operation retro-fit
    originally posted 15 march 2007 23:48
[club retro police raid video no.2]

    ====
on 05 february 2006 a "military attack maneuver" codenamed operation retro-fit, was executed on club retro l.l.c. by ski masked and paramilitary black-ops styled agents under the command of major michael d. slocum of the rapides parish, louisiana, sheriff office.

a few days later on 08 february 2006 the rapides parish sheriff office learned that club retro had a sophisticated video surveillance system of its own...

according to paragraph 51 from page 23 of a federal complaint rpso then served a search warrant:
"for any electronically or digitally stored images intending to prove the ownership, transportation, sale or profits from illegal controlled substances or drug activities, etc., which, of course, did not exist. Fortunately, however, the video equipment that memorialized the actions of the various persons from the Rapides Parish Sheriff’s Office on February 5, 2006, had been taken to a safe place where it was safe from getting “lost”.
operation retro-fit has resulted in at least two federal civil rights lawsuits filed in the western district [judge dee drell of gold weems infamy] of louisiana against the rapides parish sheriff's office.

all local alexandria, louisiana area main stream media, including the gannett owned alexandria daily town talk; media general owned kalb-tv-nbc; pollack-belz owned klax-tv-abc and the martin family connected [source: whois database] northside journal have a blackout on this story.

in february 2006 most if not all of these local MSM outlets played up or as the british say, they "sexed up" for public consumption, operation retro-fit to benefit the rapides parish sheriff office -- now they refuse to follow-up; investigate and report on any of the allegations spelled out in the complaints. WHY?

this is a short clip taken from the club retro internal video camera number 4. this is a portion of the clubs video that the sheriff department found out about a few days after the raid then came back with a search warrant in order to seize it and keep it from public view. the clubs owners had already moved all the video to a safe place.

    20 February 2008

latest gannett/town talk/wagner/kalb/crawford story leaves more questions than answers

once again the town talk's half-assed and shoddy reporting is apparent. in their most recent 'news' story posted to the town talk's website this morning (see link). again the town talk fails to get to the bottom of the heath crawford's r.p.s.o. employment/kalb/wagner campaign/email status.

why wont the town talk release or at the very least state from where mr. crawford's email(s) originated? oh and now we learn that mr. crawford faxed some news releases so what telephone number did these faxes originate from? this shouldnt be that hard to figure out since most fax machines stamp the originating telephone number at the top of the fax. as far as the emails thats even easier- did they come from an rpso email account and if so, then how did mr. crawford gain access to an rpso email account if he wasnt employed by or authorized by proper authority (the sheriff) to do so?

notice that the town talk has never bothered to print the dates of mr. crawford's kalb employment other than his last day at kalb was friday 15 february 2008. the town talk dont dare print that because if it is true that mr. crawford worked for kalb during the sheriff election then people would be questioning the town talk why they didnt report that a media general/kalb employee was working for the wagner campaign back during the sheriff election campaign. after all, the town talk endorsed mike slocum - or at least pretended to.

you think that central louisiana's media community dont know each other and know what the other is up to? they might not know what specific stories the other is working on at any given time but they do know each other and talk to each other. michele godard in her 15 november 2007 ksyl interview said that she talks to the town talk's abbey brown [.mp3 clip 560kb] who just happens to be the very same reporter who's writing these crawford/wagner stories.

dont forget the husband and wife team of jim leggett and babs zimmerman. jim leggett was at the town talk while babs zimmerman worked at kalb. isnt it reasonable to assume that they talked about developments with each other? perhaps even coordinating their respective 'news' organizations individual reports to sculpt the message about any given 'news' event?

its looking to us like the town talk probably inadvertently blew the lid off a massive scam involving kalb and the wagner campaign (notice that sheriff wagner has never denied that mr. crawford worked for his campaign) and now they cant do anything but offer up absurd, half-assed 'news' reports in an effort to control and misdirect the attention away from the real story at least until public attention wanes.
