kalb had a big splash today about a campaign commercial of state representative rick farrar attacking his opponent and assistant district attorney chris hazel.

kalb's mike magnoli said rather prematurely that the substance of the commercial is "cut and dried and it's hard to argue with." the commercial alleges that "when a registered sexual predator was arrested for 'flashing' a school bus full of children, assistant district attorney chris hazel failed to take steps to put him in jail." then the commercial goes on to show how "just this year the 'flashers' father gave a big contribution to chris hazel's legislative campaign." and that "over a year later the predator has yet to be tried." "the sexual predator is still free."



obviously, you can see what the inference is here.

make no mistake we arent fans of mr. hazel; we arent going to vote for him, but fair is fair. the docket for the case in question taken from the rapides parish clerk of court's website shows that mr. hazel was merely the arraigning district attorney in this case. his name is only mentioned once and you can see that the case appears to have been assigned to rocky willson and that the case has been moving its way through the court system. the last docket entry was only a few days ago on 28 september 2007. so mr. hazel did in fact "take steps to put him in jail."

whats annoying about mr. hazel in this instance, is that he refused to appear on camera and issued a very weak statement not even bothering to explain all of this. this would tend to show that mr. hazel isnt very well suited to be a state representative...then again rick farrar's penchant for playing fast and loose with the truth shows that he isnt either.

by the way the carl bordelon mentioned in the docket sheet below is the same carl bordelon of richard lee mcnair fame.
