via govit.com we learn that rep. barney frank (why does it always have to be this guy?) is attempting again this year to bring the federal government's stance inline with states rights regarding medical marijuana prohibition.

the act if passed will move marijuana from schedule i to schedule ii of the controlled dangerous substances act and provides for the medical use of marijuana in accordance with the laws of the various states.

the bill was filed on 11 june 2009 and has thirteen co-sponsors so far, including ron paul as well as representatives from wisconsin, new york, oregon, washington, and massachusetts, H.R. 2835 has been assigned to the house committee on energy and commerce, which is chaired by rep. henry waxman.

reps. charlie melancon and steve scalise from louisiana are members of the committee
