S. Con. Res. 26 says that slavery began in what was to become america in 1619 but the pilgrims didnt arrive until late in the following year of 1620. its never been shown that the pilgrims held or owned african or any slaves.

S. Con. Res. 26 states that "nothing in this resolution authorizes or supports any claim against the united states; or serves as a settlement of any claim against the united states."

this would seem to rule out payment of reparations -- but its a start! - so says randall robinson, author of "the debt: what america owes to blacks."

S. Con. Res. 26 passed the senate by unanimous consent on 18 june 2009.
