reed avenue elementary to change name to julius patrick elementary

according to the town talk (see link) the rapides parish school board has voted to change the name of reed avenue elementary to julius patrick elementary in memory and in honor of the longtime principal who was killed in an automobile accident in november 2006.

Board members received a standing ovation from the crowd gathered in support of the elementary school's name change. Before the vote, Teresa Barron told board members that Patrick was a role model and a change in the school name would ensure "his name and legacy will live forever."

The group had gathered more than 400 signatures from the community surrounding the school and from throughout the parish. Patrick was a longtime principal at the school and mayor of the town of Boyce. He died in a November traffic accident. As the crowd left out of the board room, they yelled "thank you" to members and hugged one another.
