Secretary of State Dardenne injured in traffic accident

Secretary of State Jay Dardenne is in Our Lady of the Lake Medical Center as a result of injuries from a motor vehicle accident this morning.

“It was a pretty serious accident,” said Dardenne’s press secretary Jacques Berry.

At the time of the incident, Berry said Dardenne was headed to his secretary of state’s office off Essen Lane from a breakfast meeting in downtown.

Berry said he has been told that Dardenne’s vital signs were good. “We are supposed to be getting a report from the doctor very soon,” Berry said shortly before 11 a.m.

Dardenne suffered fractured ribs and spinal injuries in the crash and will require surgery next week. His press secretary says Dardenne did not suffer neurological injuries.
