is hurricane gustav coming for southern decadence?

a commenter on the times-picayune gave us the idea for this post. all the baby name sites seem to agree that the name gustav means "staff of the gods."

in 2005 shortly after hurricane katrina struck new orleans cancelling southern decadence, there was some talk about katrina's name and its meaning which is pure or purifying and the significance and coincidentalness (if any) of it all. so we shall see.
