**updated** at tonights city council meeting councilman fowler's resolution was brought up and city council president everett hobbs offered a substitute motion "that all council meetings starting today and in the future be aired on the access channel for a minimum of two weeks time at the following council meeting." seconded by councilman myron lawson.

councilman fowler asked "here in other words you're going to amend it not to show the june 12th meeting?" councilman hobbs replied that he was amending it to start today and councilman fowler cut in: "nah, i'am asking you if you're amending it specifically not show the june 12th meeting?" councilman hobbs replied "i'am amending it to start today and into the future."

a voice vote was then taken and councilman fowler asked for a roll call vote the yeas were myron lawson, everett hobbs, louis marshall and roosevelt johnson. voting no were harry silver and chuck fowler.

and there ya have it alexandria. if this doesnt prove to you that you have a majority of criminals running your city nothing will. the only question is what are you going to do about it?

    roy admin.& city council continue assault on alexandrian's civil liberties

    roy administration & city council on track to become the worst, most corrupt, incompetent excuse for a government ever seen in alexandria, louisiana.

    something evil this way comes

    passing and enforcing racist and unconstitutional legislation in regards to the so called 'abandoned' vehicle ordinance wasnt enough for alexandria, louisiana city government. now they have seen fit to spring red light spy cams on the citizenry. at least councilman silver had the good sense to vote no to this garbage and we thank him.

    alexandria, la. city council doesnt want a citizen to address it!

    ====
    in the 20 may 2008 city of alexandria, la. city council meeting a citizen **later identified as houston rax** arose to address the city council. after some hem hawing by the council president about silly procedural technicalities he was finally allowed to address the council.

    the citizen wanted to touch upon the city's continued high utility rates. the city of alexandria's utility bill crisis was all the rage in the local media last year. however, this year it seems to have dropped off the media's radar.

    one of the most asinine statements we've heard coming from a city councilman was when councilman chuck fowler interrupted the citizen to ask him how was alexandria's utility rates high "compared to what?"

    councilman fowler, who according to the la. sec'y of states website is up for reelection this year, must have forgotten the umpteen meetings the city has had to discuss their utility bill crisis, such as this one last summer presented by then acting utility department director marcus connella to the utility committee, which councilman fowler chaired.

    or how about the city's commission on utility reform and equity [c.u.r.e.] a citizens advisory group tasked with finding answers to alexandria's utility bill crisis.

    apparently, the city council is more interested in suppressing and browbeating citizens who desire to speak out about real quality of life issues they are facing, than they are in being reminded of and discussing their inability to solve them.

    von jennings fires back

    members: jonathan goins chairman, ed larvadain, iii and charles "chuck" fowler.

    the audit committee meeting begins with councilman lavardain starting out wanting an audit of all departments. councilman lavardain wants them to look at all credit cards, purchases, travel vouchers and so forth "to make sure that we are spending the taxpayers monies wisely."

    councilman fowler drops a bombshell when he reveals that that the administration is currently conducting internal audits and that "some of these things may involve litigation, possible criminal activity and i dont think it would be wise to have an open forum on that."

    ====
    ====
    this morning the gannett/town talk posted an article alexandria hired private investigator to follow von jennings [download .pdf] and the investigatee, ms. jennings showed up to complain. the fact that councilman lavardain began the meeting by calling for an audit provided her a nice segue.

    ms. jennings pointed out how sleazy it was for the administration to hire a private detective, the mayor's cousin no less, to follow her around especially since it cost money that could have better spent on the city's "crime problems" and "drainage problems."

    for a little while, we thought ms. jennings had 'em over a barrel. the news article references the date of 10 december 2007 as a date that ms. jennings was surveilled. ms. jennings produced some paper to show that on that day she wasnt at work the entire day as she had spent the day and evening with her grandmother who she had taken to the hospital. however, it came out later that the date that ms. jennings was on about was actually 10 december 2008.

    we're not sure that we fully believe ms. jennings assertion that "the real issue" (her being fired) of all this is that "minority business participation for the last fiscal year was one percent" and that "i was responsible for trying to increase that along with the mayor's support and along with ms. michiels support and the rest of the staff and i never got it." it could just be that regarding this issue that she isnt articulating herself in a way that we can understand.

    what gets our attention though, is when ms. jennings says "i'am being retaliated against -- against by the administration, because i wont say, or i wont be, or i wont behave the way that you think, the way that i should," because we've experienced some of this ourselves, sometimes, when we post something that the administration doesnt like and we're not even working for 'em.

    so next city attorney charles "chuck" johnson takes the mic to respond to ms. jennings. he says that the city has always used private detectives primarily in workers comp fraud cases and that its nothing unusual about using private investigators.

    mr. johnson says that he "knew that this day would come when ms. jennings would try to make this a racial issue so i had an independent person tail her and video her for several months..."

    councilman lawson finally interrupts to make a good point. he wants to know "i do want to know, you know if we're hiring investigators, i mean, i just find it peculiar when we're at-will state if you feel uncomfortable with an employee, its the prerogative of that person to terminate them."

    OVERRIDDEN

    5:23 pm cdt [link to video time 16m45s] alexandria, louisiana city council votes 5 - 2 to override mayor jacques roy veto of the city council's ordinance number 231; hiring of it's own attorneys: john w. "jock" scott and toni rachelle martin. mayor roy and other citizens insist that the city council hiring its own legal counsel outside the purview of the city attorney is a violation of alexandria's home rule charter.

    first mayoral veto override in memory...

    local attorney greg upton addresses the alexandria city council [link to video time 5m50s] and says that he represents the "consensus opinion of a group of about thirty-five or forty individuals that have been meeting for approximately the last six weeks."

    mr. upton says that "in our opinion it's (ordinance 231) a serious and fundamental threat to our basic document of city government and thats the home rule charter." and that "abiding by the charter: its not optional...each and every member of the council is legally and ethically obligated to abide by the terms of the city charter. in our opinion
    ordinance 231 is illegal. voting to override the veto, in our opinion, would be allowing the consummation of an illegal act and would be a violation of the city charter."

    **update 2** town talk:
    Council overrides mayor's veto; mayor files lawsuit to stop council from hiring own attorneys
    The Alexandria City Council members revived a controversial ordinance to allow the council to hire its own attorneys, but the ordinance has been stalled by a court order issued today.

    Mayor Jacques Roy filed a lawsuit as soon as the ordinance was readopted by the council by overriding the mayor's veto, prompting the 9th Judicial District Court to issue a temporary restraining order.

    That means “it is enjoined from being in effect until further hearing and decision of the court,” Roy said in a phone interview after the meeting.

    During today's council meeting, Councilmen Roosevelt Johnson, Myron Lawson, Louis Marshall, Everett Hobbs and Charles F. Smith Jr. voted to bring back the ordinance in an ongoing dispute some believe is hurting the city’s image.

    The council overrode the mayor's veto of an ordinance authorizing the council to hire its own legal counsel.

    Councilmen Harry Silver and Charles L. "Chuck" Fowler voted against overriding the veto.

    **update 3** town talk:
    roy files suit after council overrides veto
    Alexandria Mayor Jacques Roy reacted swiftly Tuesday to a decision by five City Council members to override his veto of an ordinance allowing the council to hire its own attorneys by immediately suing to block its implementation.

    Roy said he filed the suit as soon as the ordinance, which he had vetoed about a week ago, was readopted during Tuesday's council meeting.

    The suit prompted the 9th Judicial District Court to issue a temporary retraining order, meaning the ordinance "is enjoined from being in effect until further hearing and decision of the court," Roy said after the meeting.

    The ordinance, which seeks to allow the council to contract its own legal team independent of the city's legal department, has been the focus of disagreement about whether the hiring of such attorneys violates the City Charter.

    lying louis marshall

    this video is a 3m40s clip from a march 2007 alexandria, la city council community development committee meeting. the one in which city councilman louis marshall introduces his resolution captioned "public information on city activities and important constituent matters." a city attorney read the resolution and said that "mr. marshall asked that staff prepare a resolution concerning the public information and how that information can be made available to the public particularly considering the new changes in the information sources such as the internet..." then the city attorney goes some examples about what the resolution is talking about such as special notices, changes in garbage pickup schedules, utility matters, places of interest and city governmental business "including but not limited to expanded use of the government access channel..." as shown in the video the city attorney then reads the entire resolution...

    now contrast councilman marshall's actions then to his actions in a recent city council meeting (see following video) when he refused to second a motion to broadcast a recent special city council meeting, effectively censoring his constituents. so what happened with mr. marshall between then and now?

    the administration doesnt appear to be entirely blameless here either because if mayor roy would have went ahead and drafted the resolution (mayor roy says at the end of the video "mr marshall we understand the directive and we'll proceed accordingly"} for the council and it would have been passed by the city council already -- then the city council wouldnt have had a leg to stand on in the recent special city council meeting public access broadcast they banned.

    ----ORIGINALLY POSTED 19 JUNE 2007 6:14 PM----

    councilman chuck fowler makes a motion to show all city council meetings on public access television and the motion dies for want of a second

    so why do we call alexandria, louisiana district one councilman louis j. marshall a liar? well because he is. you see a scant 98 days ago on 13 march 2007 councilman marshall offered a resolution regarding citizen access to city business. we even posted about it here. now when a resolution is offered to make available the special city council meetings to the citizenry via public access channel 4 this hypocritical sack of dung sits there like a bump on a log and allows the resolution to die.

    by the way, we have that 13 march 2007 committee/city council meeting video and within the next few days will have it posted here.

    alexandria city government: full of house negros

    inspired by, but with apologies to, our pal the field negro

    the alexandria, louisiana city council
    from left to right: myron lawson, harry silver, charles frederick smith,
    everett hobbs president, louis marshall, chuck fowler, roosevelt johnson

    one thing that strikes us as odd or even ironic is that one would think that when black people because of their history as slaves, segregation and oppression, come into power that they - of all people, would be the ones to show compassion and fair treatment, equality and justice - you know to show the rest of us how its done or how its supposed to be.

    whats so dismaying and so disturbing to us because quite frankly we have been treated better by some black people in some situations than by our own kind, is to hear people talking in alexandria, at the barber shop, in line at the post office, etc... about for instance the developing utility bill crisis or the cleco case scandal, about how thats what you get when you elect blacks and they take over. no....to this we say - this is what happens when you elect house negro's and house negro's take over.

    only a house negro would come up with and vote for alexandria's new abandoned vehicle ordinance and then have the town talk go out and photograph so called abandoned vehicles but only in the black neighborhoods...a field negro on the other hand loves the constitution and the rights that so many people have given so much to bring into force...

    a field negro feels just as compassionate for an old white woman who's struggling with her bills as he does for his own grandmother. a field negro never plays the race card because he sees his child and a white child playing in the park and marvels at their example. how it is that what all children only want and only see in another child is a potential friend and playmate. so he knows that racism and prejudice is not an inherent human condition but is taught and passed down in all races from generation to generation;

    only a house negro would use taxpayer money to pay for a big party for him and his other house negros. a field negro would say come enjoy the fellowship but only if you can afford it and bring a sack lunch.

    mr. felton joshua age 89
    on the alexandria utility bill crisis
    "to me it's just robbing people thats all i can see they just robbing people"
    video

    only a house negro would accept the excuse that was offered up by alexandria's finance director, david crutchfield, as to whether or not to rescind late penalties on utility bills because "that besides providing an incentive for customers to pay bills on time, the city also receives a lot of money each fiscal year from late payments.
    In fiscal year 2004-05, Alexandria received $3 million from late fees and in 2005-06, $1.5 million. So far this fiscal year, which ends April 30, the late payments are around $1 million, Crutchfield said." when every field negro knows that in america the government is by, for and of the people and additionally everything in the city is already owned by the citizens of the city. only a house negro would try to "lord over" the people in such a way.

    only house negro's would squander thousands of the taxpayers dollars on such foolish ventures and the dana pitcher boxing event and yeah we will throw que'in on the red in that too and every other bread and circus financed by the city when this looming utility bill crisis is hanging over the peoples heads. a field negro learns from his old enemy the fire ant and stores his provisions in the good times in preparation for the lean times. a field negro is looking out for and thinking about how soon the burning sun will appear and the elderly will be dropping like flies because they cant afford to run their air conditioners.

    we have to wonder what the slaves would say about the present situation. would they be pleased? probably not. we imagine that they would be outraged and would say something along the lines of how dare you use our names and our struggle to advance your selfish cause. they would say that you didnt learn anything from us. and that you are just like the slave masters you are only about money, power and controlling other peoples lives.

    its time for the field negros to come in from the fields...

    fuck you thank you, charles frederick smith and the other six nutters [everett hobbs, louis marshall roosevelt johnson, chuck fowler, harry silver and myron lawson] on the alexandria city council for unanimously making alexandrian's and central louisianians look foolish in the eyes of the world.

    a rude awakening for realtor wolf

    robert wolf
    ====

    link to video clip page
    ====
    at the tail end of the 25 march 2008 alexandria, la. city council finance committee meeting, local realtor robert wolf, arose to ask a question to the committee concerning last summer's tax election.

    mr. wolf was specifically concerned about the one percent sales and use tax that was on that ballot. it seems that previously this sales tax had an expiration date of ten years, meaning that it had to come before the voters every ten years to be approved or rejected.
    link
    mr. wolf asked: "not too long ago we voted to renew a sales and use tax - one percent, that had a expiration date of ten years -- and the renewal does it also have an expiration date of ten years?"

    (get a load of city finance director david crutchfield standing behind mr. wolf shaking his head in order to let the committee know the answer)

    "no" replied councilman chuck fowler

    "well how could we vote for a renewal of a tax that had an expiration date of ten years and not have an expiration date on what we voted for?" mr. wolf asked.

    so councilman lawson called forth finance director crutchfield who promptly explained that it was an "in perpetuity" tax.

    actually, last spring there was talk in one of the city council committees about making this tax "in perpetuity" so it really shouldnt have come as a surprise that is just what the city did.

    however, no one ever explains how an in perpetuity tax is legal. a hundred years from now we will all be gone, yet people that arent even born yet will be tasked with paying these in perpetuity taxes without ever having a say or even having the opportunity to have a say. do you think thats right? what kind of people do that to their own offspring? an immoral people thats who. isnt an in perpetuity tax in reality taxation without representation? or how about a violation of including, but not limited to, section 1 of the fourteenth amendment right to due process? an in perpetuity tax is a totally unamerican concept - its communist.

    the same goes for the rapides parish sheriff's office in perpetuity tax

    05 october 2002 link

    if louisiana actually had any politicians, legislators, etc. that were actually worth a damn, they would file a bill and pass a law outlawing this in perpetuity tax scam. but louisiana doesnt have any politicians or legislators that are worth a damn because they wouldnt have ever foisted this garbage on the people to begin with.

    alexandria city council passes hotel bentley resolution

    the never ending saga that is the historic downtown alexandria, la. hotel bentley continues. today in a special city council meeting, the alexandria city council approved a resolution in which the city council, amongst other things, strongly endorsed the central louisiana chamber of commerce's executive board entering into discussion and consultation with the second century bentley group [second century bentley, l.l.c. who's manager and member is cyntreniks hospitality company, l.l.c. who's manager is brace b. godfrey, jr. - nu vieux, l.l.c. is also a member] for the establishment of a public/private collaborative to facilitate the group's effort to restore, renovate and reopen the historic hotel bentley.

    ====

    heres the video of the meeting - no clue why the video is "narrow" like this.
    ====
    click here to download the resolution three page .pdf
    what no one in the media is asking or reporting on, is why the city council is suddenly abandoning mayor roy's sparc scheme which we understood included plans for the bentley.

    councilman chuck fowler voted against the resolution and councilman charles fredrick smith was absent. councilmen myron lawson, roosevelt johnson, everett hobbs, harry silver and louis marshall voted yes.

    24 August 2011

    alexandria landlord gayle underwood call for federal investigation into city of alexandria government!

    we agree. although, most likely not for the same reasons.

    we've opposed the sparc program from the beginning; neverminding that, we would like to see an investigation too, into, for example -- why the alexandria city council two weeks ago approved after much -- apparently for public consumption, complaining, belly-aching, bitching and moaning, giving $140,000 [97,143 eur] tax-payer dollars to continue to prop up the alexander fulton hotel when there is an extremely high probability that it is going to shut its doors at 01 november anyway. so wtf there?

    it would have made far more sense to have denied this 140k squandering public money and then approving phase 2 of the sparc/hodges stockyard project.

    the council could have used that money for a lot of things, but since they have that kinda money to waste, the least they could have done was to apply it toward the legal fees in expropriating the bentley -- then after the alexander fulton shuts down, the sheriff can sell them both.

    the alexander fulton hotel would have been sold off eons ago on the court house steps if the city would not have kept applying taxpayer money to it.

    so there needs to be an investigation into the capitol one banksters and the alexandria city government to find out if the banksters are blackmailing the mayor and the city council or just what is going on because this makes no sense.

    we would like to see a complete, in toto, in globo investigation into each city councilperson the results of which should show amongst other things how and why they arrive at their decisions.

    another thing that we would like to see investigated is why exactly is councilman chuck fowler a republican the only one voting in support of the sparc expansion -- when it is contrary to the republican platform. so he needs to be investigated from top to bottom too.

    oh and while you're at it -- find out why councilman harry silver at going on 90 years of age (no joke) is the only councilman with any sense.

    as far as the alexandria mayor -- we've never said that he was honest -- at least as far as politically -- but after umpteen lawsuits -- some, maybe all of which he has been deposed and/or had to testify under oath, investigations, whisper campaigns, including that freak piece of shit greg aymond and his dreary band of rabble-rousers and house negros dogging him out daily, for years, the result of all this has not yielded one thing that the mayor could be arrested for, disbarred, censured, removed from office etc, etc: zip. zilch. nada. nyet.

    the fact of the matter is that mayor roy was reelected, in the open primary, less than a year ago with 62% of the vote.

    louisiana is a to the victor go the spoils state and the mayor has his entourage of supporters and others, that he trusts to carry out his will.

    what we have in opposition to the mayor is a group of people who want to steal all the mayor's ideas and plans as their own and most importantly the money they generate -- to give to their friends.

    this is true because they never stand up to the mayor over what's right and what's wrong or even what political philosophy they pretend to subscribe to, like how wrong it was to borrow a bunch of money to fund an inperpetuity governmental give-a-way program(s) the repayment of which, in part, is already promised by alexandrians not even born yet and without their informed consent by an in perpetuity (slave) tax (2007) -- a clear violation of moral law and federal law, including but not limited to, amendment xiv, federal constitution and louisiana law at La. R.S. 14:134.

    so yeah, lets have an investigation. send in the national guard, feds, postal inspectors, fbi, carnivore, darpa, the calvary & that thing up in alaska, haarp or whatever, you know, the whole nine yards, because its obvious that alexandrians, no matter their race, creed or religion are too stupid and pathetic to come together as one, like they should have done years ago, to march on city hall with torches and pitchforks and put a stop to this chicanery.

    we recommend that everyone closely question each candidate for sheriff of rapides parish and alexandria city marshal about what exactly they have done to curb public corruption -- NOT what they plan to do.

    they are all longtime policemen and if each one can not give you a specific example of who, what, when, where, how and what time of what he has done to put a stop to public corruption -- then refuse to vote for him -- because they are part of the problem. simple as that.

    town talk pronounces alexandria city counsel prez everett hobbs a failure

    kudo's to the alexandria daily town talk for not falling for or being intimidated by alexandria city counsel president everett hobbs recent charges of racism. we also like the way that the town talk turns it around and puts the focus squarely on the remaining six city councilmen to do something about their failing leader:

    The body for which he speaks includes six other council members: Charles "Chuck" Fowler, Roosevelt Johnson, Myron Lawson, Louis Marshall, Harry Silver and Charles Smith Jr.

    The councilmen have chosen and endorsed Everett Hobbs as their leader, so they are the chorus behind what their leader says. They can sing his praises, or they can remain quiet. It's their choice. Either way, through praise or silence, they say the same thing: that they support their leader.

    On the other hard, they can choose to criticize their leader -- because they disagree with him, because they think he stepped over the line, because they think he is wrong about something, or because they think he may be unfit to handle the responsibilities of the position.
    so will the remaining six city councilmen step up to the plate and remove president hobbs? we're not very encouraged since it appears that president hobbs together with at least four other councilmen (the bridgett brown 5) appear to be operating together in the same organized crime ring.

    perhaps if state attorney general charles foti had spent as much time, money and energy enthusiastically investigating and prosecuting corrupt public officials as he did prosecuting dr. anna pou he just might not be facing such a hard struggle for reelection.

    in a side note, it appears that bridgett brown's brother, garry brown, writing under his favorite sock puppet "love4aex" (all town talk posts by love4aex) after reading this town talk editoral promises not to read spam the town talk forums anymore. riiiiight.

    alexandrian michael goins on city of alexandria vs cleco fraud suit settlement

    some people might find mr. goins words hard to understand. in reality though, mr. goins speaks volumes. he was the only citizen who stood up and questioned what the city and cleco is really up to. he should be commended. too bad five councilmen: myron lawson, everett hobbs, roosevelt johnson, harry silver and chuck fowler, didnt heed his words of wisdom.

    check out the silly jack-boot in the background running a clock on everyone. the police are not interested in solving crimes or ferreting out corruption.

    bob dean hotel bentley fiasco

    this continuing saga only captures our interest because of the hotel bentley. bob dean is something else. he closed the hotel bentley down a year ago this week this is after looting it of its original antiques and artwork which according to the town talk he wasnt supposed to do because it had something to do with his bank loan mortgage.

    how he gets away with all this stuff is beyond us because the media has been covering it.
    anyway, the bentley has been closed before we remember when we were kids we would pass by the hotel and it was closed then. strangely we have only been inside the bentley just a few times, once we were out partying with some friends and got a wild hair to rent a suite at the bentley. the room (what little we remember of it) was nice. the other time was to apply for a front desk clerk job (we didnt get it) but we did visit the gift shop and found a nice print of a pelican which we had framed and gave to our mother its still hanging in her living room.

    so now mr dean is angry with the alexandria establishment because he claims that fema approached him about housing katrina evacuees there. if the truth was known it was probably mr dean who approached fema. when the historical society ladies and all that crowd found out they went nuts. lol general quarters general quarters! and that scotched that.

    that reminds us about what happened a few years ago about 97 or 98 the city of alexandria, the parish or state one of those began to pave the streets downtown and in the garden district. now you have to understand that the original streets are built out of bricks. we dont know but probably back in its day this was the most advanced road and street building technique known. however now 100 years later brick streets that were great for horse and carraiges are a major enemy of modern cars. the bricks have buckled, pot holed, everything you can imagine. our neighbors the hauks have made a fortune aligning front ends lol. - and more power to them because they are the best and dont take my word for it come to alexandria and ask around for yourself. so what happened? well the morning the road pavers were to begin this lady named joe betty sterkx shes a big preservation maven etc., she gets her lawn chair out and goes and sits down in front of the machinery. our luck would have it they would start in her very neighborhood. the cops and the media came and it was a big deal. we still have brick streets downtown.

    dean is supposed to be selling the bentley and has been for years and years but would you shell out a few million dollars for something this guy has had his dick skinners around? we wouldnt either. we have also heard that mr dean owns or has interests in nursing homes and with the recent st rita's nursing home tragedy you can see what kind of people own nursing homes in louisiana. we believe we would just shoot our loved one and hope they would do the same to us rather than have to go to a bob dean nursing home: PLAQUEMINE MANOR NURSING HOME, INC., MAISON DE'VILLE NURSING HOME, INC., RACELAND MANOR NURSING HOME, INC., MAISON DE'VILLE NURSING HOME OF OPELOUSAS, INC., MAISON DE'VILLE NURSING HOME OF HARVEY, L.L.C., ST. ELIZABETH'S CARING, L.L.C., this isnt meant to be a complete listing of mr deans nursing home interests; you may search the secretary of state corporation data base for mr dean by clicking here.

    Owner applies to demolish Hotel Bentley

    By Billy Gunn
    bgunn@thetowntalk.com
    (318) 487-6378

    The owner of the Hotel Bentley has filed a permit application to have the historic inn demolished, according to documents received from Alexandria's engineering department.

    Dayne Freeman, an attorney for Bentley owner Bob Dean, said she could say only that Dean had authorized filing the permit.

    Larry Mathews, city engineer, said his office is trying to determine who the local members of a historic preservation district commission are.

    "This is the first time this has ever happened," Mathews said, and explained that commission approval is one hurdle Dean would have to clear to raze the downtown hotel that's been closed for almost one year.

    City to form historical preservation commission

    The Alexandria City Council decided to begin considering appointments to the Historical Perservation District Commission in a specially called meeting Friday.

    The meeting was called in response to an application from Bob Dean to demolish the historic Bentley Hotel. The commission will review that application and make recommendations to the council.

    "I think Mr. Dean got exactly the reaction he wanted," councilman Chuck Fowler said. The council should "weigh all options the city has," he said.The commission, which was created by not staffed by the city council many years ago, will consist of 15 Alexandria residents. Eight of those members will come from specific civic organizations. The remainder of the commission will be composed of any city resident with an interest in historic preservation.
    Representatives of local preservation groups submitted lists of names for the council to consider on Friday. The deadline for forming the commission is Jan. 15.

    For more details of Friday's special meeting, see tomorrow's Town Talk.
