ASSOCIATED PRESS • July 15, 2010

NEW ORLEANS —BP says oil from its broken well has stopped gushing into the Gulf of Mexico for the first time since April.

The announcement Thursday came after company officials said all valves had been shut on a new cap over the busted well in an experiment to stop the spill.

Kent Wells, a BP PLC vice president, said at a news briefing that oil stopped flowing into the water at 2:25 p.m. CDT. [1925 GMT/UTC]

It was a long-awaited milestone in one of the nation’s worst environmental disasters. While not a permanent solution to plug the busted well, the success in capturing the oil spewing out was welcome news.

The crisis began when BP’s deepwater rig exploded, killing 11 workers.

The cap is not a permanent fix. BP is drilling two relief wells so it can pump mud and cement into the leaking well in hopes of plugging it for good. ~ view original

Setback Delays ‘Top Kill’ Effort to Seal Leaking Oil Well in Gulf

HOUSTON — BP had to halt its ambitious effort to plug its stricken oil well in the Gulf of Mexico on Thursday afternoon when engineers saw that too much of the drilling fluid they were injecting into the well was escaping along with the leaking crude oil.

A technician at the BP command center said that pumping of the fluid had to be stopped temporarily while engineers were revising their plans, and that the company hoped to resume pumping by midnight, if federal officials approved. ~ read more

the other day we followed a link "lenny kravitz pitches in to protect the gulf..." from the dead pelican.

lenny kravitz was pretty popular back in the day;. plus how could you not admire a guy who (back when she was fine) dated; then married lisa bonet?

here is a vid clip of mr. kravitz and zoe (his daughter with ms. bonet) recently getting tattoos together in new orleans. how sweet!

as many know mr. kravitz's mother was roxie roker. she played helen willis on the jeffersons tee vee sit-com program. george jefferson (sherman hemsley) and his antics were always a hoot.

anyway, we landed at the cbs news report thinking this would be another generic story of a celebrity who had come or moved to new orleans since katrina or due to the deepwater horizon oil catastrophe because in those circles it's the fashionable thing to do.

instead, we learned that mr. kravitz has actually lived at new orleans since 1993.

woods' believes that citizen's across the united states are fed up with politicians in washington telling them how to life their life and then sticking them with the bill.

he explains to his readers that nullification allows states to reject unconstitutional federal laws. for many, nullification is rapidly becoming the only way to stop an overreaching government drunk on power.

from privacy to national health care woods shows how this growing and popular movement is sweeping.

mr. woods explains that the war for independence was about each colony wanting to be a self-governing society but the british government wasnt allowing that.

so when they established their own government they didnt want to undermine the states self-governing society -- that was the whole point in breaking with britain. so in the u.s. constitution, in 1791 there were ten amendments added to it known as the "bill of rights."

the tenth amendment says that any power that the states, when they created the federal government, any power that the states did not delegate to that government remains with them.

so any power that's not mentioned in the constitution is presumed to rest with the states. well nullification simply derives from this point.

the further point and it was thomas jefferson who really codified this idea: that if the federal government does try to exercise power that's not listed in the constitution and that rests with the states, if it does go beyond its constitutional boundaries, then the states would be bound to resist this act of the federal government and therefore within its borders the state would nullify that act.

mr. woods says that this is hardly known among the american population and he would be surprised if you found that even 1% of the population knew all of this -- it would be amazing.

mr. woods says that the idea of nullification is not a popular one. most americans have not even heard of it. but any time you emphasize anything involving the states and the powers of the states american students; school children, have been taught to believe that anybody advocating this -- must have sinister intentions;

that the only reason you could advocate this is that you want to use these powers of the state to oppress minorities and so forth.
