local politicians pissed at evil bloggers
we just read an interesting post (see link) over on michele godard's cenla media blog. the title of the post is "Mudslinging Bloggers Take Over?" in which she directs our attention to a 21 april 2007, editorial in the lafayette, la., gannett owned the daily advertiser called "internet is ideal for mudslinging."
although the daily advertiser's editorial seems to take to task organized political campaigns and their online hijinks ms. godard is interestingly morphing it around to include some blogs and bloggers.
for instance, ms. godard chooses to lead her post off with this line from the daily advertiser editorial: "The fact that laws against libel and slander are not applicable in cyberspace is disquieting, to say the least." laments the commentary." then goes on to write:
A similar concern was echoed to me Monday from a central Louisiana politician clearly taken off balance by the huge amount of negative information posted on local blogs about him. This person is determined to find out who is on the attack, and claims to already have an attorney looking into who is posting and organizing this smear campaign.now the first thing you have to understand is, is that the media will never pass up an opportunity to marginalize and make bloggers look foolish because the media's influence is diminishing and naturally they dont like that. its their own fault though because they dont report anything serious. take for example our post yesterday about rich dupree's emails. those emails were sent to us out of the blue and totally unsolicited. now despite the fact that the emails were legally obtained by a public records request why would someone choose to send them to a blogger rather than go to the local media? most likely because the media wouldnt print them. its not because there isnt any interest in the email story either because our own stats from yesterday shows that since we posted them we received almost 900 page loads:
additionally, even today, the emails are still attracting tremendous interest because all seven emails including the invoice are all in todays top ten of most outgoing clicks:
as far as these ridiculous politicians are concerned king solomon, about 3,000 years ago wrote about what the problem is and what the answer is to the problem. solomon wrote at proverbs chapter twenty-nine at verse two: "When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn." so if the politicians were doing the right thing and were righteous then everyone would be "rejoicing" and singing their praises instead of insulting them and so forth. if the politicians were as smart as they think they are and used their cunning in a different way then they would be reading the blogs and seeing what people have to say and be adjusting their attitude and more importantly their policies accordingly. but they wont do that. instead, their strategery is to stamp out all opposition - because they are not righteous.

mayor roy blames city council for unupdated city website
**updated 2:40 pm cdt tuesday 24 april 2007**
Mayor Roy never said or implied that the Council is thwarting us from updating the website; he used the word recalcitrant about an entirely different subject.
Indeed, we are planning a major website overhaul, and as you correctly point out, the site is still regularly updated, although the Mayor hasn't uploaded a welcome letter yet.
As you may know, the City recently changed its logo, and because of this, we're going to redesign the color scheme and layout of the website. The new site, which should be launched within a couple of months, will be modeled after NYC's website, a very simple, fluid webpage that is easily and constantly updated. Coming very soon, the site will feature a section entitled "Office of the Mayor," which will feature press releases, biographical information, and more.
Additionally, we will be launching a number of other pages-- an Economic Development page filled with information on doing business in Alexandria, a tourism or visitor's page that will complement the CVB's site, and a new website for the Historical District Preservation Commission, which will showcase our historic properties.
This is all work in progress, and you're absolutely right: The Council doesn't have anything to do with whether or not we update the site. Mayor Roy knows this. I know this. Unfortunately, the article did make that mistaken implication.
One more thing: the way the previous administration had the website set up doesn't really work for us; any time you want to update the site, you have to call KJA and ask them to upload content. We want to ensure that we can upload content in-house.

monday morning we changed the date of the post in order to bring it up to the top of the page again. later we went over to the town talk's website and was surprised to see that billy gunn in his weekly "city notebook" column mentioned that the city of alexandria website hadnt been updated either.
town talk snip:
City's Web site a little behindwe dont know (or care) if mr. gunn got his idea from us or if it was just a coincidence although we do know that the town talk visits this blog from time to time:
Alexandria's official Web site, www.cityofalexandriala.com, needs some work.
Click on "press releases," and two items pop up, the most current one posted June 26, 2006. And clicking on the release titled "Red, White and Blue at the Zoo" does nothing.
Click on the "Mayoral Welcome" icon, and all you get is "Coming soon a letter from Mayor Jacques Roy."
Roy said the Web site and government access Channel 4 need revamping and that he's being hampered by a recalcitrant City Council.
the word "recalcitrant" was interesting to us though, because thats a word you dont hear everyday and one that even with our voluminous vocabulary we werent entirely familiar with. so we thought we had better look that word up because at first glance it seemed to us that the mayor was saying that the city council has a calcium deficiency...or something.according to dictionary.reference.com:
re·cal·ci·trant –adjectivehmm pretty strong; all these word games aside though, would the mayor have us believe that the city's website cannot be updated without the city council approval. we must have missed that ordinance. furthermore, when one looks back a few months at the city's "official website" you can easily see that the website has been updated from time to time. last month the que'in on the red logo together with a link to its website was added to the citys "official" website and its since been removed and replaced with logo's, links to and someone has constructed custom web pages on the city's "official" website for:
1. resisting authority or control; not obedient or compliant; refractory.
2. hard to deal with, manage, or operate.
word net: 1.stubbornly resistant to authority or control; "a fractious animal that would not submit to the harness"; "a refractory child" [syn: fractious]
so the mayor would have us believe that a simple text letter cant be copied and pasted into that mayoral welcome web page and published without the city councils approval?a simple whois check of alexandria's "official" website shows that its not even registered to the city of alexandria - its registered to david pugh's kja communications group, inc.

rich dupree emails
NOTE: if you arrived at this post by googling eliot spitzer+prostitute+ashley alexandra dupre click here
From a public records request, made prior to Pineville's current lawsuit, it was seen that the City of Pineville sends thousands of dollars per year to the Alexandria Aces baseball team, and to Louisiana College Athletics, a private Christian college. In 2004, $10,000 was given to LC. However, a recent public records request, by retired Pineville Fire Chief, Gary Morrow, now connects the dots for us. Some of the emails Chief Morrow obtained, from Rich Dupree, Executive Assistant to the Mayor of Pineville seems to buttress his recent complaint on Mr. Dupree to the Louisiana Ethics Board. We see several interesting things, from a sample of those emails published on: http://wesawthat.blogspot.com/.
First, it appears clear that Dupree is using his City of Pineville emails, and much of his public payroll time, to conduct business for a couple of radio stations, Louisiana College Athletics and the Alexandria Aces. He is the Aces stadium announcer, and also seeks use of their letterhead to get a job for his son, and get tickets for his wife. He even tells the Aces where he wants her to sit. He also advises the Aces on who to contact in the new City of Alexandria administration, as that could be useful to the Aces in the future. He also appears to be connected with Tiger FM, which broadcasts the Aces ballgames.
The arrangement with Louisiana College seems somewhat different. At LC, it appears that he, and his clone, Pineville City Councilman, the most reverend Nathan Martin, announce those games for their radio station. Dupree may have possible stopped LC from paying him directly, and, instead, pay his radio station. Dupree does appear to get, directly from LC, clothing, food and travel. If Dupree has violated any Ethics rules, it appears that Martin may have also. Besides discussing Martin in his emails, see Martin's website at: http://www.nathanmartin.net/. You will also see, from the listed activities, why you will probably not see these matters in the Town Talk, are their former business associate's newspaper, the Northside Journal.
Several interesting questions need answering:
1). Why was Morrow not charged the $95 per hour attorney time, and $45 per hour paralegal time, which the City of Pineville is seeking from me in its lawsuit?
2). Is this the type of damaging information that Pineville seeks to keep from me?
3). Is Dupree paid by the Aces, Louisiana College, or any radio stations which Pineville does business with?
4). Why are the citizens of Pineville paying Dupree to handle the business affairs of the Aces, Louisiana College Athletics and a couple of radio stations, and furnishing him a computer and email account from which to do so?
5). Does Dupree, or any other Pineville official, receive anything else "of value" from any other enterprises doing business with Pineville.
It looks as if the Dupree-Martin gang, of Pineville, is involved in similar shady dealings as the Lawson Crew in Alexandria. These are the exact reasons that the public records laws allow us to shine a light on our government officials. More to come, and check out http://wesawthat.blogspot.com/ to view some of Dupree's emails.

alexandria red light spy cams continued...
the jacques roy administration in its relentless plan to trample alexandrian's civil rights has placed upon the city council agenda (see link) the following item:
22) RESOLUTION authorizing advertisement for Request for Proposals for red light cameras, installation and monitoring for the Alexandria Police department.to read more about the horrors of spy cam's and to find out what the roy administration and city council have in store for alexandria see the following links:

Georgia: Red Light Cameras Expose Personal Information - the newspaper.com

a private company is going to run alexandria's spy cam scam. why is a private company having access to alexandrian's personal information? what kind of database will it be stored in and for how long? who will have access to your personal information and who will they sell the information to? guess you will find out when a few days after you receive your spy cam ticket you get another letter from local attorney david stone.
someone told us that the spy cam scam wasnt the mayors idea and that may be true but mayor roy is pushing the scam and that makes him complicit. is the mayor his own man or a marionette? will mayor roy be a man and a leader and stand up for whats right or will the mayor continue to be a puppet?
meanwhile, its day 138 of the roy mayoral administration and the town talk is reporting here that "roy hires 5 assistants, wants more" this is despite the fact that long time former mayor ned randolph made do with only two assistants.
on the plus side maybe the mayor will now have someone to finally write and post his welcome letter.

Just to let you know, and hopefully avoid needless expense to the state in legal fees, a federal appellate court recently held that individuals do have a 2nd Amendment right to bear arms. Such right is also found in the Louisiana Constitution. Therefore, your bill HB-869 is unconstitutional. I realize that the introduction of such bill was done as a liberal political ploy to get you more liberal votes, but you have totally underestimated gun owners. I personally own several assault rifles, and whether your bill passes or not, I will fight to the death to continue owning them. Such is what our country was founded upon, and allows us to control oppressive governments, such as you envision. Your time, and our public funds, would be better spent controlling the criminals who use such weapons to commit crimes..

sb117 max malone criminalizing feeding alligators

meet louisiana state senator max malone-(r) shreveport dist. 37. amongst other senate bills this clown has filed is sb117 (see link) senator malone wants to make it a criminal act to "intentionally feed or attempt to feed a wild alligator." now isnt this kinda like common sense - not to feed an alligator? why do we need a law criminalizing feeding alligators? louisiana state senators actually sit around thinking up stupid shit to file obviously because they dont have sense enough to file legislation that is worth a damn. oh and what party is senator max malone a member of? why the republican party of course - you know that party thats supposed to be for more freedom, less government bureaucracy, regulations, taxes and so forth. uh huh.
the field negro on southern university scandal
OK, I tried to hold out as long as I could, but no more. Now I am a member of Jaguar Nation, and no one loves Southern University more than I do. But it's time to keep it real. What kind of ignorant ass shit is going on down there? Johnny Anderson, your ass needs to go. I don't care if you are innocent of the things you have been accused of, your sorry ass, and your ego is destroying one of the finest institutions, and the largest black University in this country. RESIGN NOW! Stepping down is not enough! Kathleen Blanco-Louisiana's incompetent Governor- appointed you, but she doesn't care about black people any more that George Bush does, so she won't get rid of your sorry ass. She would rather see a fine Universities reputation destroyed. So Johnny please go, you will be a better person for it, and you will be able to look at yourself in the mirror.related posts

jindalisgood.com is a scam
we just read an interesting john hill column here. in his article mr. hill mentions a website called jindalisgood.com:
snipBoasso said he is also offended by a pro-Jindal Web site, www.jindalisgood.com, that calls him “the Tony Soprano” of the governor’s race, a reference to the mobster from the hit HBO television series. “I guess it’s a reference to my Italian name,” Boasso said. Villere and a Jindal spokesman said they have nothing to do with the Web site.
so we decided to do a whois look-up (see link) for that domain to see if we could find out who is behind the site:

a la state republican supports gun control
meet louisiana state representative hollis downs-(r) ruston, dist 12. this RINO republican came out today in support of state representative rick gallot's gun controlling hb461.
the monroe news star quoted downs:State Rep. Hollis Downs, R-Ruston, said he will vote for the bill if it makes it to the House floor during the upcoming legislative session. "It doesn't make any sense in the world to have a firearm on a college campus," Downs said.
so wheres the republican condemnation of downs rather unrepublican stance? there wont be any. the republican party is made up of nothing more than hi-tech con artists and scammers and their redneck sycophants. actually thats an insult to true red necks who of course know better than to be a part of this "party." really what the republican party is - is a cadre of white collar criminals and their low i.q.white trash wannabes.
we agree with this commenter in the news stars story chat thread:
monroewatcher....tsk* tsk*.... I would not expect such a response from you. I do not beleive that just because someone is a student..they forfeit their constitutional rights.

louisiana sheriffs endorse a rhodes scholar communist for governor
**updated** "ryan" the guy in charge of the daily kingfish blog gives an encouraging word in a comment here when he reminds us that "simply because Mr. Jindal received the endorsement of the Louisiana Sheriff's Association does not mean he is unstoppable ... after all who did the Louisiana Sheriff's Association endorse in the 2003 jungle primary? They helped Richard Ieyoub come in 3rd behind Governor Blanco and Mr. Jindal."
----ORIGINAL POST----
the dead pelican reports:
JOHN MAGINNIS: In what will be seen as a historic political shift, the Louisiana Sheriffs Association has endorsed Bobby Jindal for governor. The endorsement, to be made official today, followed a vote of all 65 sheriffs, only 7 of whom are Republicans. The full political impact of the endorsement might not truly be felt until election day, when sheriffs traditionally have handled the get-out-the-vote operations for the state Democratic Party.
--END--
what a sad day for louisiana when the states sheriff's of all people, endorse a proven traitor to the constitution and bill of rights a member of the subversive rhodes scholars and a glaringly transparent fast talking con and flim-flam artist.

port games
the town talk has a story this morning (see link) "port, petron disagree over lease accord." the story is about a lease dispute between the alexandria regional port authority and petron.
apparently what is going on is that the "powers that be" want the petron gang out of the port business and the new gang whom town talk reporter, karina donica, calls "vanguard synfuels llc" actually its vanguard biosynfuels, inc. in. the mayor even sent kay michiels, his c.o.o. over to the meeting. the town talk quotes ms. michiels as saying:
"This is a terrible, terrible, terrible situation for you all and for us," Michiels told commissioners. "And I just want to encourage you to get this resolved with Petron."
according to this story in the kansas city business journal, in april 2003, vanguard biosynfuels, inc. (curiously the k.c. business journal got the name right) bought the old farmland industries fertilizer plant at pollock, louisiana for $2.3 million [1,690,647 eur].
according to delores brewer's campaign finance reports here steve ayres was a contributor.
why does the tyler family surname keep turning up in city government business?
