sb672 baton rouge rino erich ponti leads charge for massive legislative pay raises in state house
UPDATE: sb672 scheduled to be heard and voted on by the house on friday 13 june 2008
***********
UPDATE: 3:33 pm cdt: nutty ponti is already crawfishing - the dead pelican reports:
PONTI DOES 180 ON SB 672: " It was reported by WAFB-TV at noon today that I voted in favor of a legislative pay raise. In reality my vote was to send this legislation to the House floor in order to allow the full house the opportunity to debate and vote on this legislation. In its current form, I am opposed to this legislation and will vote against it on the House floor."
By Caroline Mosesone the one hand, baton rouge, rino erich ponti is pushing his hb1312 to raise the mandatory automobile insurance premiums on over one million of louisiana's poorest drivers in a time when gasoline prices are already over $4.00 a gallon and the economy is in disarray. this slap in the face of louisiana's poor is also fully supported by central louisiana's own ultra-liberal democrat and trial lawyer chris roy, jr. (a move that other trial lawyers actually thanked god for, so that should tell you who the bill really benefits) representative roy even went so far as to file his own bill -- hb1291.
excerpt:
BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Legislators are even closer Wednesday to tripling their pay. They passed the bill out of the Senate to raise their base pay from $16,800 to about $50,000 a year. Wednesday morning, that bill flew through a House committee and is headed to the House floor.
House members voted for their own pay raises, like Tuesday night, in record time with little debate. The pay raise bill would normally not be up for debate until later this week on the House side, but some legislators are pushing to get it passed as quickly as possible.
Senator Ann Duplessis of New Orleans is sponsoring the bill.
Legislators would start getting that extra pay this July. Representative Erich Ponti of Baton Rouge voted FOR the raise in committee Wednesday. Only four committee members voted against the bill. ~ read more
then on the other hand, this shit-for-brains erich ponti is leading the charge to give himself an astounding 300% + pay raise. can you see yet what a bunch of criminals the louisiana legislature is?
Here’s how the committee voted when it approved the pay raise bill.
Voting FOR the pay raise (13): Chairman Gallot and Reps. Pat Connick, R-Harvey, Greg Cromer, R-Slidell, Noble Ellington, D-Winnsboro, Brett Geymann, R-Lake Charles, Cameron Henry, R-Jefferson, Girod Jackson, D-Marrero, Rosalind Jones, D-Monroe, Tony Ligi, R-Kenner, Charmaine Marchand, D-New Orleans, Erich Ponti, R-Baton Rouge, Steve Pugh, R-Ponchatoula, and Mert Smiley, R-St. Amant.
Voting AGAINST the pay raise (4): Reps. Taylor Barras, D-New Iberia, Mike Danahay, D-Sulphur, Richard, and Jane Smith, R-Bossier City.
NOT VOTING (2) Reps. Karen Peterson, D-New Orleans, and Wayne Waddell, R-Shreveport. Baton Rouge Advocate, June 12, 2008. ~ more...see 'repubs drive lege pay raise'

mom finds a california king snake in babys crib

we dont advocate killing king snakes because they are beneficial - they kill and eat other snakes as well as rats and mice. however, if you walk into your sleeping seven month old daughters room and find one coiled around her leg (probably for warmth) who could blame you for killing it?
thats whats so surprising in that baby isabella's mother, cari abatemarco and her uncle charlie vecchiarelli had the presence of mind to capture the snake and then call animal control who came and brought it to the animal shelter.
joanne daly, islip, new york animal control supervisor says that the king snake "is very healthy" and that the snake will be housed there "for a tempory time." but since the snake is considered under islip law to be an exotic it will not be considered for general adoption and will probably be adopted by an organization that cares for exotic animals. video and story at the link
louisiana conservative to cenlamar: how much is mary landrieu paying you?

it's always fun to watch a couple of political hacks from opposite ends of the spectrum have a go at it....
snip:I know if I was sticking my neck out trashing a guy on a politicians behalf, and it turned out that my guy received a ton of cash from him, well, I’d be embarrassed. Then again, Democrats are a bit sadist, they love getting screwed around by their own party. I think they have a prize out there for the left wing blogger who can show the most absolute loyalty to the Democrat party, maybe...read more
actually this statement by the louisiana conservative is a bit of a stretch seeing as how the rethuglicans screw their people over far worse than the democrats do. at least with democrats you know upfront what you're getting.
the rethuglicans on the other hand, with their american flag pin prop (and a prop is all the american flag is to rethuglicans because their actions show how they dishonor the flag) firmly attached to their lapel, pretend to be conservative and pretend to believe in god and mama and apple pie and lower taxes and less governmental regulations and all that, then consistently turn around and do the exact opposite of what they claim to stand for.
rethuglicans are still the biggest hypocrites on the planet.

senator david vitter: cranking up 2010 reelection campaign
here are some excerpts of an email senator david vitter sent out moments ago:
Recently I held a conference call with some of my key supporters and grassroots leaders around the state. During the call we discussed issues currently being addressed in Congress. Also, looking ahead to 2010, I would like to use these calls to reenergize and reorganize the statewide campaign network which worked so hard and was so successful in my 2004 Senatorial election.UPDATE: see also the stormy daniels label in the footer of his post
[...]
we'll also talk about forming a statewide network for the David Vitter for Senate 2010 campaign. As we get closer to my 2010 campaign for reelection I'll be hosting more conference calls and meetings, attending rallies and festivals, and cheering our teams on at football games around the state.
volunteer help needed at the louisiana history museum at alexandria, louisiana
note: at our request, mr. genius was kind enough to forward to and grant us permission to post his letter which appeared here in todays gannett/alexandria daily town talk 'your mail' section.
Museum help wanted.
As director of the Louisiana History Museum I have to constantly study our area’s history. I talk to people and read every book and article on Central Louisiana I can find. I am always on the lookout for items of historical interest to this area. I can never learn enough about Alexandria and Central Louisiana.
I have one problem though. I can’t do it all by myself. I need two or three volunteers who are willing to learn and are able to communicate with groups of people. There is no pay involved and you must be willing to devote several hours a week of your time. The only thanks you will get is the satisfaction of educating visitors to the Louisiana History Museum about our area.
It takes a special person to do this. You must like history and enjoy talking to people. You must have a basic knowledge of Louisiana History. You do not need a college degree, but one of course is helpful. You must be willing to listen and learn and then pass this on to others. If you like history and talking to groups, then you will love being a docent for the museum.
If this sounds interesting to you and you have plenty of free time then please get in touch with me. Instruction time is about 5 to 6 hours. I will invest my time in you if you are one of these special people. We need several people to help with tours.
But please do not apply unless you are willing and able to follow directions and are committed to doing this type of work. Please contact the Museum for an appointment. 318-487-8556. Ask to speak to me.

piyush "mr. ethics bobby" jindal's executive counsel jimmy 'the wizard' faircloth sued for being 'unethical' & 'unscrupulous'

click here to download a .pdf of the nine page petition 2.12mb
dont ya love it when lawyers have a falling out? the petition pretty much speaks for itself, however, the most humorous line reads "at all material times, faircloth law firm was negligent in failing to adequately supervise, train control, and monitor defendant faircloth."
by the way, robert travis scott over at the times-picayune assures us that they are going "to get to it," with respect to reporting about this lawsuit, which is good since the gannett/town talk and kalb have had a total news blackout on reporting mr. faircloth's shenanigans despite extensive coverage in other louisiana news media such as the times-picayune.

remember u.s.s. liberty attack 08 june 1967
On June 8, 1967, US Navy intelligence ship USS Liberty was suddenly and brutally attacked on the high seas in international waters by the air and naval forces of Israel. The Israeli forces attacked with full knowledge that this was an American ship and lied about it. Survivors have been forbidden for 40 years to tell their story under oath to the American public. This USS Liberty Memorial web site tells their story and is dedicated to the memory of the 34 brave men who died. ~ read moreLCDR Philip McCutcheon Armstrong, Jr., USN
