roy mayoral announcement makes splash

jacques roy is a 35 year old lawyer who at noon today officially announced his candidacy for mayor of alexandria, louisiana.

town talk snip:
Roy joins a field of possibly seven to eight candidates on the Sept. 30 elections to succeed five-term Mayor Ned Randolph.

Qualifying for the Sept. 30 primary runs Wednesday through Friday of this week. A runoff would be held Nov. 7.

Roy has been front and center in the Cleco-Alexandria debate over if the utility overcharged city ratepayers.

He also touched on the future of Alexandria, telling the crowd standing in the searing noon heat that Alexandria just a few years ago was the fourth or fifth largest city in Louisiana.

Today, he said, “We barely make the top 10.”
