on 12 june 2007, a federal grand jury returned an indictment [2 page .pdf department of justice press release here] of mike thompson, former director of the poverty point reservoir district, charging mr. thompson with using reservoir money for his own benefit. mike thompson is also the brother of louisiana state representative francis thompson.

louisiana state representative francis thompson.

rep. thompson is one of many state legislators (including state senator ben nevers) behind the poverty point and other state reservoir scams. rep. thompson is term limited and says he plans on running for the state senate. presumably, so that he may continue to shepherd the necessary state legislation to keep the reservoir scam ongoing.

mike thompson's indictment was returned sixteen days before the state legislature adjourned for the year. therefore, the state legislature had more than enough time to remove the funding for this scam. what does the organized crime ring that calls itself the louisiana legislature do instead? increase funding to the reservoir scam and overwhelmingly approve hb2.
